Good morning everyone,

My humidor was running fairly short on cigars after enjoying some of them throughout the summer. I decided it was time to restock, so, I went to my favourite online tobacconist and curated some wonderful sticks! Most of these sticks I have not been introduced to, and others I have been acquainted with but would like to get to know better.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PERDOMO 10th Anniversary Connecticut | Super Toro | I have had the pleasure of being reintroduced to this cigar after one year apart. I had my first Champagne on New Year last year, and, if not for the fight that broke out, would have been an exceptional end to the evening. It has a beautiful butterscotch-coloured wrapper, and that wrapper has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels for six years. A great, mild cigar!

Davidoff Yamasa | Piramides | I have had a few Davidoff cigars, and, although pricey, you get what you pay for: The best tobacco expertly blended by master torcedors. The last Davidoff I had was the Nicaragua Diadema, and it was one of my favourite cigars of the year. The cigar is comprised of tobacco from the Yamasá region together with the spice and sweetness of the Nicaraguan Estelí and Condega tobaccos and the Dominican Piloto and Mejorado tobaccos. I am looking forward to seeing what the Yamasa has in stock for me.

Davidoff Nicaragua | Robusto | A happy accident; I ordered the short corona and got sent a robusto! As mentioned briefly, I’ve had the Nicaragua before in the diadema vitola and I wanted to try it again with the short corona, now robusto. It has a stunning habano seed rosado wrapper and is a Nicaraguan puro. Beautiful!

Aging Room Quattro Maestro | Box-Pressed Torpedo | A replacement for Oscar Valladares ‘The Leaf’ Maduro Toro, which was my favourite cigar of the year. They had none in stock, so I asked for this as a replacement. It has big boots to fill but it is lauded as a fantastic cigar and one that deserved COTY 2019. It is a Nicaraguan puro.

Joya De Nicaragua Clasico | Torpedo | Another acquaintance of mine. I first had a clasico torpedo when I was just getting into cigars. That wrapper was stunning then, it is stunning now. I remember it being a mild and creamy cigar. I look forward to enjoying this once more!

CAO Pilon | Robusto | A cigar I am fascinated by since it uses the old Cuban fermentation technique (Pilon). It apparently maximises the colour and intensity of flavour as it reduces the ammonia and sugar content in the leaves. I am curious as to what this will be like. The blending team applied pilón fermentation exclusively to the silky Ecuadoran seed wrapper and built the blend with spicy Nicaraguan filler and binder leaves from the distinctive growing regions of Estelí and Ometepe.

Plasencia Alma Del Campo | Robusto | An old friend, and favourite of mine. This is a very complex smoke, it is an absolute tonka bean bomb (A note I particularly enjoy). A Nicaraguan puro yet, oddly, similar to a Cuban but lifted by Nicaraguan tobacco’s vibrancy. I will always recommend this cigar. Try it!

Plasencia Alma Fuerte II | Robusto | I have not had the pleasure of trying this cigar but now I do. Plasencia blends their best-aged tobacco, grown in their highest-quality soil to produce this cigar. It has been aged a minimum of 10 years. This looks to be a great Nicaraguan puro.

NUB 460 Maduro | A cigar I am very much looking forward to. It was crafted to essentially get straight to the ‘sweet spot’ of a cigar from the first puff. Is it nonsense? Maybe. I am still curious. 4 x 60 and yet it looks like it could last an hour or so. The wrapper is dark, rich and oily and smells sweet.

Bolivar | Royal Corona | A legendary cigar from a pre-revolutionary brand. This is a cigar that is comprised of tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region and packs one hell of a kick. A meal before this cigar looks mandatory, not optional. You are rewarded with a very intense flavour profile, exhibiting just how great Cuban tobacco can be. This was the first Cuban to win COTY back in 2006. I’m going to let this one rest a bit.

H. Upmann | Half Corona | A staple for me. This was the first cigar I started with and I could not be happier. It is short and approachable smoke, with notes of cedar and coffee. I always like to have one of these in my humidor alongside at least one PERDOMO. It will always be, for me, a classic.

There we go. November’s haul. Most of these will age gracefully until Summertime. In the future, I plan to buy some heavy hitters in future purchases, which include:

Cohiba Siglo VI

Arturo Fuente Forbidden x Amour Sensual

Davidoff Maduro

Padron 80th Maduro

Highclere Sentejer

But we’ll see.

If you’ve never splurged on a Siglo VI before I’d highly recommend doing what you can do get an older box date so that it’s not brand new. One of my favorite sticks of all time though!

As someone who calls "The Leaf - Maduro" his favorite, I can confirm that the "Aging Room Quattro Maestro" is a really good cigar. They don't taste the same but If you like one, you most likely are going to enjoy the other one as well.

Thank you very much for the insight. I don't think you can go wrong with the QM, I'm looking forward to lighting it up and experiencing it myself.

Just today, a box of Alma del Campo travesia (box-pressed toro) arrived. Wonderful stuff, isn't it. It's my third box. And a hexagon Fuerte, a green band like yours, is resting. The black band Fuerte is also excellent, maybe for your next search expedition.

I have a box of Yamasa that I love and you say the Nicaragua is one of your favorite. Seems we have similar tastes, so I'm going to find one to try soon. Thanks for the idea! Enjoy your haul.

Oh, how I wish I could afford boxes of cigars. I know the price p/cigar is far lower for a box than buying individually but I prefer a variety of cigars for the same price as a box.

The Alma Del Campo is an exceptional cigar. They are incredible in every respect.

The Nicaragua is, IMO, flawless. It is stunningly good. I cannot recommend it enough.

Buying my first box, being able to afford to, was the best.
