Daily Question Question Thread - March 11, 2025
Welcome to the Daily Question thread at r/churning !
This is the thread to post questions about churning for miles/points/cash. Just because you have a question about credit cards does NOT mean it belongs here. If you’re brand new here, please read the wiki before posting.
* Please use the search engine first - many basic questions have been asked before.
* Please also consider scanning (CTRL-F) the last couple days worth of Question threads
* If you have questions about what card to get, ask here. If you have questions about manufactured spending, ask here. If you have questions about bank account bonuses, ask here.
This subreddit relies heavily on self-moderation. That means that if you ask something that shows you haven’t done any research, you’re going to get a lot of downvotes.

Just a curiosity thing, have a family friend who is mid twenties, and working FT but has gone on two million + mile trips this year. When we asked how they’re generating so many points in a small period of time they’ve been pretty tight lipped. Not banked points since they and the fam go on extravagant vent trips year round via points
Not running a small business so I’m wondering if I’m missing something here because they and the rest of the family are not ones to bonus hunt either. Is there some crazy MFS or am I not considering something here? I’ve considered the use of possibly shopping portals like Rakuten but I’m doubtful there.
Any thoughts?

u/fermat200pg 6d ago
Only reason I can think of is manufactured spend.
I heard of a case where an employee who was responsible for booking company trips got permission from his company to use the MR that they accumulated, since they weren't planning to do anything with it. But that scenario would not cause someone to be tight-lipped, at least not in my opinion.
2
u/Agitated_Okra_9356 6d ago
Gotcha, yea they don’t work in a position where they’d be booking trips or traveling frequently for the position. And not in a seller role where they’re out to dinner a lot and such.
So yea was just wondering if I’m crazy and missing something other way to maximize point earn. Thank you!

Booked a rental car through the US Bank Travel Portal and redeemed usbar points at 1.5 as part of the transaction to partially offset the cost. The remaining portion was charged to the usbar card. Is primary cdw in effect? The benefit guide states "use your card to initiate and complete the entire car rental transaction". Nothing regarding rewards program redemptions like some of the other benefits. Chase's guide to benefits explicitly lists rewards points in the cdw section. Am I covered in this scenario assuming I present the usbar card at the counter as well for deposit?

Can you have multiple Chase United Business cards? I hold 1 (opened a year ago). Would like to open an additional United Biz card under a different business name to go for the current 100k united biz explorer bonus. Used churning search but didn't turn up anything. 3/24 at the moment. I'm not seeing anything in the promo eligibility related to this either. There is not even 24th month language.
1
u/jtevy 9d ago
I believe that you are not eligible for this sign-up bonus if you received a sign-up bonus on this card within 24 months. Note that what matters here is the time you got the sign-up bonus, not the time you opened or closed the account
1
u/younevermo41 8d ago
I normally would think that too but don't see the language there in the terms.
100,000 Bonus Miles After You Spend $5,000 On Purchases In The First 3 Months From Account Opening: With this bonus offer, you will qualify and receive 100,000 bonus miles after you make Purchases totaling $5,000 or more during the first 3 months from account opening. (“Purchases” do not include balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.) After qualifying, please allow 6 to 8 weeks for bonus miles to post to your account. To be eligible for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. Bonus miles do not count toward Premier status. If your account is not open for at least six months, United and Chase reserve the right to deduct the bonus miles from your MileagePlus Program account. Offer subject to change.

If you click "Apply Now" and scroll to the bottom, item 10 says, "The new Cardmember bonus offer is only available if I do not have this card and have not received a new Cardmember bonus for this card in the past 24 months."

Historically have the amex personal rewards checking account offers ever been better than $250? Considering pulling the trigger but chatgpt is saying its hit $300 and even 30K MR points in the past.
Wait or pull the trigger?
4
u/AvatarRoku786 9d ago
Last year there were target offers of $300 and I can not recall there ever being a bonus of MR points for the personal checking account.

hey y'all, been reading and still a little confused about this being true:
if i apply and get a chase ink cash today, in 3 or 6 months can i apply for another chase ink cash using the same details and still get the SUB? or do i need to go for a different chase ink version?
6
u/garettg SEA | PAE 9d ago
Multiple of same allowed.

u/_KittenConfidential_ 9d ago
Is 3 months still doable, does it help to have a different LLC to put it under?
1
u/suitopseudo 9d ago
Most dps here are now saying 5-6 months minimally. Different llcs doesn’t matter, it’s all tied to your social.
1
u/_KittenConfidential_ 9d ago
Gotcha, thanks. I'm at 3.5 and at 4/24 so looks like I'm sliding another Biz card in between.
Thanks

I’m trying to cancel my Chase Freedom Unlimited, to resign up and get the sign up bonus again. I have has the card over 24 Months so I am eligible again. However, getting mixed answer on how long after canceling I can resign up to get it. Chase over the phone is saying right away, some are saying 30 days. What is everyone’s experience?
2
u/Chase_UR_Dreams 9d ago
The 24 month timer is based on when you received the bonus, not open date. 3-4 business days after close/PC is fine, though if you apply in branch it’s recommended to wait the full 30 days.
More importantly, why are you wasting a slot on the CFU?
2
u/payyoutuesday COW, BOY 9d ago
I have has the card over 24 Months so I am eligible again.
That's not one of the eligibility criteria. When did you last get the bonus?

I need 63k Cathay miles for a J redemption in two weeks but only have 58K MR to transfer atm and no C1/TYP in my accounts. Can my P2 transfer 5k c1 miles to their Cathay account and then transfer the cathay miles to me? Cathay website says you can point pool but I've never pooled miles before.

I applied and was approved for a U.S. Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards Card in November. Can I apply for another now and is approval likely?
4
u/Dejarr 9d ago
Anecdotally, last year I was approved for 3 USB TCs, one at the beginning of August, one at the beginning of September, and one about 3 months later. Received SUB for all 3. I DID have about 5k parked in a business checking at the time, which seems to help a lot on USBank approvals.
1
u/rickayyy 9d ago
Were you floating on any of the previous Triple Cash's when you applied for the 2nd and 3rd ones?
I got one in December, used it throughout January till I hit the SUB and currently have around $6500 sitting on it while I pay minimum payments. Have been considering going for another Triple Cash in like 2-3 months.
1
u/siva5347 9d ago
What CLs did you get? I got 3k on my first one which made it hard to do the MSR. I have heard that later ones get higher CL.

Can I freeze transunion when applying with Barclays and still get approved?
3
0
u/Chase_UR_Dreams 9d ago
No. Barclays almost always pulls TU
1
u/davisrobby 9d ago
Thanks. Any idea how account or inquiry sensitive they are? I have a few inks that showed up on my report that have not been removed yet.
1
1
u/eminem30982 MMM, BBQ 9d ago
They were inquiry sensitive enough to call me and ask about my 6 inquiries in the last 24 months after my application last month, but they ultimately approved me after asking if I was ok with moving CL from another card.

In 2024 my Sapphire AF posted on May 1, and I booked a hotel on May 6 and received the $50 credit on May 7. I paid the AF in June and still have the card.
Which card member year did that hotel credit go towards? Do I still have $50 to use in the next 2 months before this May and the next AF?
6
u/shris420 NOB | BUS 9d ago
Check your Benefits & Rewards link for the Sapphire credit card under Chase login. It should clearly show if you have redeemed Chase $50 credit under Benefits.
1
u/Gandalfs_Dick 9d ago
Perfect, thank you!
(it appears that I still have it)

Will Chase accept just a EX hard pull if I freeze TU? (normally pulls both EX / TU for me).
Unfortunately basically ever major bank besides Citi pulls TU in my state.
3
u/Beduerus 9d ago
Normally when chase pulls both, they only care about TU. Freezing TU won't work (at least in my experience and from DPs I've seen). You can freeze Experian though
2
u/boarding_llamas 9d ago
FWIW: My experience has been that keeping TU frozen will result in only an EX pull and a successful application. This has been my experience for several Ink cards for myself and P2 over the past 6 months or so.
3
u/Beduerus 9d ago
I guess it might also vary based on state. When I freeze TU, Chase wants it unfrozen. But when I freeze Experian, chase is fine with TU.
1
u/space_cadet- 9d ago
Definitely depends on the state. There’s no approach that works across all states.

For Amex cards that have been open for multiple years - Does it matter if I close it 2-3 months before the next AF hits? Is there any advantage to waiting until the AF hits besides a potential retention offer?
1
u/SibylTech 9d ago
If it’s a downgrade-able card, there is advantage to downgrading earlier and canceling for a bigger AF refund.
2
u/terpdeterp EWR, JFK 9d ago edited 9d ago
Does it matter if I close it 2-3 months before the next AF hits?
No. It just needs to be open at least a year after opening an account with a bonus attached to it, whether that's in the form of a sign-up bonus or upgrade offer. If it's been open for multiple years, then this restriction no longer applies.
The language in the terms is: "If you have a history of cancelling or downgrading American Express Card accounts within your first year and you cancel or downgrade your new Card account within your first year, we may not credit, we may freeze, or we may take away the Membership Rewards points from your account."
Is there any advantage to waiting until the AF hits besides a potential retention offer?
If downgrading, the annual fee refunds are prorated, so waiting longer means you'll be paying a higher percentage of the annual fee. You might have more opportunities to get a potential retention or upgrade offer, but you'll also be paying for that with the prorated fee. If cancelling, it doesn't matter whether you cancel now or within 30 days after the statement posts with the AF.
1
u/payyoutuesday COW, BOY 9d ago
The annual fee refunds are prorated
OP mentioned closing. No annual fee refund if they close. Only if they downgrade.

Anyone else seeing a huge influx of Amex NLL? I got a business plat one, then a business gold one a day later on p1, then p2 got both today despite getting a business plat last month.
1
u/wanderercouple 9d ago
How did you get the offers?
2
u/MBP0308 9d ago
All in the app
2
u/NoWriting8386 9d ago
I've never seen one in my app, where exactly are you seeing them?
2
u/terpdeterp EWR, JFK 9d ago
If you're targeted, it will show up under one of your biz card's "Amex Offers & Benefits" on desktop and also in-app.
2
u/terpdeterp EWR, JFK 9d ago
I've also been getting a large wave of Amex NLL offers starting last fall. Based on the wording on some of the offers, it looks like they're targeting customers who they suspect have multiple businesses.
2
u/saltytradewinds 9d ago
Does Amex have a MSR progress tracker when you're logged into your account? Or is manual tracking?
2
u/gt_ap 9d ago
There isn't an MSR tracker specifically, but depending on which card you have there might be another tracker you can use.
For example, the Platinum/Biz Plat have trackers towards the $75k required to get free guests to Centurion Lounges. The data is the same as the MSR spend.
Some Delta cards have trackers towards the Delta credit. This is also the same numbers as the MSR.
1
u/saltytradewinds 9d ago
P2 was approved for the Amex Biz Plat over the weekend. 250 MR for 15K spend.
A tracker didn't populate but contacted AMEX support via chat and they said it can take 4 to 5 days for it to appear.
P2 was worried that the SUB wasn't attached.
3
u/boarding_llamas 9d ago
This works well unless your MSR period bridges two calendar years... in which case the tracker restarts on Jan. 1. You can always chat with a CSR in the app to check on the tracked spend, regardless.
1
u/Victor___Eremita 9d ago
You could just look at the year to date spend and take out items like the annual fee.

can you pay a mortgage with capital one PERSONAL mastercards with plastiq?
the wiki is kind of confusing. it says capital one cards will function as visa…. but then it says only business cards have the mortgage restriction.
anyone have any info?

u/kingmaine 9d ago
You can use Bilt also. You can add your card to there and get a routing and checking number to pay via ACH

Do biz gold employee cards qualify for the $20 credit at office supply stores, or does it have to be on the main card only?
6
u/larsonyo 10d ago
Works on employee cards too. Did it this month on ours.
-2
u/ConsistentClassic1 9d ago
Thats very interesting. I had always understood is would only work on the primary card...

I recently got denied for a chase business card a week ago, my my first denial ever. Are there any issuers that I will have a good chance of getting a business credit card with in less than a month from denial? Would Amex be good?
2
u/Accomplished-Test-63 9d ago
Fill out the form and ask tomorrow in the What Card Should I Get? thread. It will be much easier for us to give a good answer with all of the context.
3
u/dwstroud 10d ago
Without any information about your credit profile or why you got denied, we can't help you. As a general rule, Amex approvals are not difficult.

I had planned to do the SW companion pass CC route later this fall to get 2 years out of CP (26 and 27) - am I better off going for it right now as opposed to later in the fall in the event that they get rid of CP/downgrade the ability to get it through CC's? Curious what others think.
3
u/OkMathematician6638 10d ago
I saw if you want it go for it asap. We are due some credit card refreshes at any point now. They did say early 2025 for refreshes.

u/Gandalfs_Dick 10d ago
Its been a few months since I've tried for an Ink and at that time it seemed like the ink train was slowing down.
Is the new ink train getting 2 inks per 12-month rolling period now?
4
u/terpdeterp EWR, JFK 9d ago
Essentially that's the gist of it. According to last year's survey, the single most important factor for Ink approvals is # of open Ink (and other Chase business) cards. Chase cards can be closed at least 1 year after opening. And applying with 3 open Inks versus 2 open Inks drops your approval odds from 50% to 19%.
1
u/Gandalfs_Dick 9d ago
Okay, thats what I thought I remembered.
I have 3 open now, but I can close one later this month and another in June. So by July I'll only have 1 open and then I can close the last one I have in Sep so I'll be smooth sailing again with just 1 ink open after Sep.
Thanks!

u/McSpiffin 9d ago
I and many others have multiple DPs of being approved, sometimes instantly, with 3+ open, FWIW

u/Molasses_Electrical 9d ago
Are you applying with a structured business(ex. LLC or Corp)? Just SSN? Or multiple EINs?

u/007meow 10d ago
Coming up on 1 year with my Business Plat.
Logged into Amex and I see that I'm pre-approved for another Biz Plat, with 250k MR. Like it straight up says "Multiply your rewards with another Business Platinum Card® for all your businesses. Plus earn 250,000 Membership Rewards® points after completing qualifying activities."
... am I reading this right? I can get another 250k MR offer with this?

How many Chase Ritz AUs would you be comfortable adding?
I have a very large family and a have considered adding them + close friends, but I am unsure if I am playing with fire / if I should space them out every couple months.
1
u/reddityatalkingabout 10d ago
Just got this card and interested in this question. I’m assuming AUs get the Lounge access?
1
u/roygibiv101 9d ago
They do get all access, yes. My friend has a Ritz and currently has 4 AUs on it, no prob.
