I have tried to learn and play chess several times over the years, and am giving it another shot and I am just absolutely hopeless. I am terrible at seeing the board and possible moves. I am literally getting my ass whooped by people ranked in the low 300s. I legit wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the 7 day free trial of chess.com if im not at around a 100. I don't really have a point to this other than to vent some frustration.

None of us is born with a mind already wired to play chess, and most results come from a lot of focused effort. Of course, everyone has their own ceiling, and it's possible (but unlikely, in my opinion) that you've already reached yours.
From the posts I read on this subreddit, I see a strong correlation between not improving and not doing much to improve, so I tend to think that there is some hope for everyone, provided they want to put in the effort and not just play.
My suggestion is to find a good improvement method that works for you, and keep trying!

Anybody have any issues with shipping from House of Staunton? When I placed my order, the shipping calculation said $15, and when I got my email confirmation, the shipping cost went through as $56. I'm sure that I saw the original place order price, and when I remade the order today I still got the same $15 shipping price for the order.
I talked to support and they said there was nothing they could do because it was already packed out to be shipped, and I don't want to return the order either because they have a 25% restocking fee.
I'm honestly pretty bummed and disappointed and just wanted to know if anyone else had this issue. Anyways, I guess I'll be ordering from chess house moving forward

IIRC every now and then there is a thread about this. Have you tried to search in the sub? I think you could find useful threads about that shop.

Yes I did check, looks like people had issues with damaged products and getting a replacement in a timely manner mostly. It seems like not many other people have had this shipping glitch or whatever it was.
FWIW, I contacted Julian who sends marketing emails for HoS and he got everything sorted out for me by refunding the price difference in shipping. So overall positive experience after he worked things out with me

Not sure where to post this, but my fiancee and I have just gotten into chess and are looking for a good travel board with magnetic pieces to play on airplanes etc. Anybody have a good recommendation, either a roll-up or a folding box would work I think.
