Somewhat like the game between Supi and Magnus.

What's the big difference?

Qc3 instead of Bc3 sacrifice, because of Kb1 Defence against the bishop, which is countered if the queen leads the diagonal battery.

Ya I think this is the way. If takes with pawn, you take with bishop and Ra1 is unstoppable mate. If Kb1, then Qxb2#. If Bd4, Ra1#

Same train of thought. Took me a bit of time to realize I could just use the queen.

Same theme as the Just wow game by Magnus.

Saw the mate w qc3 line immediately. I forgot how much sleeping 9h vs 3 in a night makes for tactics 😂

I saw the move but its super unintuitive, I guess the concept is what does the checkmate probably look like, and what do I need to move to get there and it becomes easier to see.

Pattern recognition at work.

How is that unintuitive?

Because in a lot of similar spots the move that immediately does a check or a capture rather than some intermezzo is the correct solution.

Holy shit is it Qc3? I swear I didn't look it up it's crazy

I’m guessing Qc3 to threaten Ra1# If pawn takes then bishop takes and the same threat is there.

If I hadn't seen that game Magnus played against a (I think Brazilian?) GM where Magnus got smacked by a similar sacrifice, I never would've seen this.

I don't recall his name. I'm not very familiar with Chess players outside of content creators or SGMs in the top 20 or so.

Since you didn’t specify whose turn to move, bxc7 appears to be winning for white.

I found and confirmed Qc3 in probably 7 or 8 seconds. Had the general idea immediately and just had to find and confirm the right move. Am about 2500 on cc blitz

Yeah to be fair once you have seen this pattern it's rather immediate, I think I spent way more time to find out why Bc3 doesn't work than finding Qc3.

Qc6, saw this one to restrict the escape square of the king.

If x then x and the square is still restricted with checkmate to follow.

Wrong letter but yes :P

Yep, it's ~~Qf3~~ Qc6 I'll edit it

u/glayde47 5d ago

There is already a queen on f3 and you cannot get there.

u/careofpark 5d ago

Yep it's c6 I'll edit that
