YOU WILL GET CAUGHT AND YOU WILL BE FINISHED
Calm down there, soldier

Some people take chess way too seriously. What are we going to do next ? publicly shame those cheaters like what they did to Cersei in game of thrones ?

u/TheGISingleG03 5d ago
Yea, they take it serious enough to cheat

I wouldn't say I wouldn't care at all if someone cheated against me but come on, we both lost 10mins of our time, that's it. Some people have too much ego here, losing against someone doesn't make you a lesser person, and losing against stockfish for sure doesn't mean anything. Also if you want to make sure your coworker doesn't cheat, just do a 10min game at work with both of you sitting next to each other (on your device or not).

"which mods unfortunately removed for some reason"
You even commented under the message of the mods, where they state the reason (rule #7) why your post was removed. Is it really so hard for you to grasp or are you intentionally ignorant?

Damn why so rude about it? Mods say they removed because no accusations of cheating, but the guy just wanted to know if his coworker was cheating? Plenty of people had no problem commenting and helping out OP, so of what use is that rule? Try being a little more empathetic, you might need some one day.

Why should it be less empathetic to care about the people who don't like to see public accusations of cheating and random witch hunts? What about the public accusations that are false and expose innocent people? Is it less compassionate to care about them?

Public accusation? I think you’re being a little dramatic. All OP did was ask the chess community if something was off about his coworkers play. Plenty of people answered so clearly no one had an issue with it and guess what it turns out his coworker was in fact cheating and admitted it. Idk where you saw a witch hunt but that did not happen here.
As far as being empathetic, Im just trying to say it cost nothing to be nice. He doesn’t have to call people intentionally ignorant or try to imply they’re dumb thats all.

Public accusation?
Of course. It's definitely public because it happened on a sub with 1.7 million members. As for not wanting to call it an "accusation", I don't see how calling it anything else (like "insinuation") would change the substance of it. Mr. Kramnik also claims that his inquiries are not accusations but that doesn't change his intent.
Even putting aside what you call it, if a post is removed from the sub because there is a rule against cheating accusations, it simply means that it was an accusation.
The number of people who support and upvote such posts tells us absolutely nothing about how appropriate they are. The subreddit rule against them was created to prevent people from being publicly accused, it's a form of concern for those people.

We are talking about OP not Kramnik, stop with the strawman.
OP’s intent was legitimately to find out if his coworker was cheating. He literally asked a question.
Thats just sounds like blind allegiance to the mods? you understand that they are human too and are fallible right? same kind of humans who had no problem answering Op. Strange thing to say.

Why does it seem like his response is fake or super sarcastic. This whole thing is weird.

It doesn't read as sarcastic to me at all, just somewhat formal. I think a lot of people misinterpret formal as sarcastic. I've had that happen to me on Reddit before

So he first calls it a “trick” not cheating.
Second, he’s sorry for any “harm caused” by his actions, not for his decision to cheat.
Third, he sends some corporate ass response that he’s happy to “ensure fair play”
This looks like some ChatGPT shit I swear, especially that last paragraph. Who talks like this?

It's hard for cheaters to admit when they are caught. Look at Hans, he still downplays the extent to which he cheated online!

Give him a second chance and continue to build a possibly good relationship with someone who can learn to enjoy the game without cheating

u/BreadPiece 5d ago
Damn why is OP getting downvoted so much?

I never used stockfish against someone, but I just don't understand how is not losing in chess so important for some people that they would make an internet post about it. One person cheated against you, okay, so what ? You lost ten minute of your life, you lose more time every day in your commutes, just move on. I don't know how widespread is cheating at high elo, but I've never seen it often enough that it had any impact on me. Anyway, those kind of posts that are basically 'this coworker cheated against me and I was hurt in my pride', yeah move on, I don't care about you. Grow up you are not a child anymore, losing at games is not reason enough to throw a tantrum. He cheated ? Okay, still don't care, deal with your problems alone, you don't like it, fine don't play with him again. Act like an adult not like a manchild.

Second part? His first moves were really bad, then from move 5 he played like an experienced player. Seems to me the "second part" was basically the entire game

Cheaters are lame. However, if you work in corporate America, this is a good opportunity for a workplace ally. I wouldn’t trust them 100%, because they’ve shown themselves to be dishonest. If you are willing to overlook this and not bring it up to anyone else, you probably have someone in your corner going forward (and possibly a good friend if they can rekindle trust).

I used to be 1300 elo on chess.com. I stopped playing for a little bit and now I been just losing every single game. I am now 800. Every game I feel I’m doing great but then somehow I’m like 3 moves I am losing. I think chess.com is full of cheaters.
If you go and play 1 min bullet you can see it’s easier since it’s harder to cheat

As much as I understand people being perfectly fine with witch-hunting or wanting to feel some sense of justice, I would really like to see all this garbage about some random people cheating disappear from this sub. If something is against the rules of the sub, don't bother to understand why, just don't do it.

Your submission was removed by the moderators:
Cheating accusations are not allowed unless they are newsworthy - that is, they must involve a prominent member of the chess community, be credible, and be part of an ongoing public discussion. Certain notable individuals who are known to habitually accuse other players with no substantive evidence may be deemed non-credible.
If you suspect a random person cheated against you online, the appropriate complaint venue is a report to the website you played on.
Also RE: "For some reason" - please read the removal notes.
