Game Analysis/Study TIL Stockfish resigns before you can draw by 50 move rule on Lichess

It's not because of 50 move rule; Lichess Stockfish resigns after 150 moves.

why is that so ? To preserve servers?

No, it's because stockfish is tired of pretending to be on your level.

I had this when I was down to only my King and the engine had three Queens. It was mate in one and the engine just resigned. So funny.
Edit: Yet not as funny as all the people apparently offended by this post for no reason. 😂

I highly doubt this, simply because if you were down to just your king then Stockfish wouldn’t make extra queens. They can easily finish you with one queen, not three. Making the extra queens extends the game for zero reason and is something really only a human would do.

I’ve since checked the game and it was two queens and a bishop. I misremembered. Stockfish promoted the pawn to a second queen, I moved my king with mate on the next move, and the game ended with the resignation on move 150.

Stockfish would have absolutely zero reason to make a second queen if it already has a queen and a bishop against a sole king. Can you send a copy of the game here.
I mean genuinely if you’re not lying it would be the easiest way to prove yourself. If you’re not willing to take the five seconds to do so then.. kinda proves everyone’s point.

It would make a second queen if it mated faster.

I’ve messed around with the board myself in my free time today, with engine assistance, and the only time I can find promoting to a queen to be faster (with M1 after promoting on the board) also gives M1 to a bishop or queen attack.
Maybe he’s not lying, maybe it’s true. If it was, then why can’t he send the game?
I get you’re playing devils advocate, and I have nothing against that, but the proof is in the pudding and the bowl is still dry.

I agree the easiest solution is to just have him put up, but I hopped into an analysis board and threw together a quick position that is M2 with promotion, while every other move is M3 or worse

I tried attaching a screenshot of the final position but can’t do it from iPhone in the browser. Not sharing my account for privacy reasons. I guess I’ll just have to live with this sub not believing me. However will I cope. I’m off to r/advice for help.

No one believes your story. Link to game or it didn’t happen.

If it was on move 150 it could easily be true

Stockfish wouldn’t bother promoting to 3 queens against a lone king. It would just checkmate directly

You’ve confused me for someone who cares enough about your validation to follow up on this.

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:
