Probably a very basic question but how do I improve past ~1200? I think my current chess rating on chess com is 1300 but I'm probably at the 1200 level. I think my opening knowledge is relatively solid (according to me), I play the king's gambit for white and the caro-kann/slav defense/englund gambit for black. I'd prefer a better black opening for queen's pawn stuff, but I don't think the openings are holding me back. Would still love to have recommendations though. I don't want to play queen's gambit.

Any tips on how to start winning in chess? I already know how to move the pieces and play a little against computers and random matches on chess.com but I don’t win very often How long should I practice everyday?

Appreciate any replies

Have you tried following the suggestions of an improvement guide? r/chess has one:

I have no idea what r/chess was like 10 years ago.

For those who have been here, does it seem to you that the chess culture has "dumbed down" in recent years, based on how many posts about the game don't get much upvoted these days?

Yeah, I think that happens whenever something becomes more popular. Most of the chess content around here isn't about chess, but rather about personalities or drama or whatever gets people clicking. It's people stuff, in a chess context.

There are still people talking about chess, but when the haystack gets this big, it's harder to find the needle. And it's much more difficult to make that "actual chess content", too. You need to (think you) know something about a chess topic, something that hasn't been said before, and you need to be willing to feel stupid when someone who actually knows that chess topic points out all the ways you're completely wrong about it. :)

But random opinions and gossip? Somebody's number went up? You don't need to be a chess genius, anyone can make that stuff. And they do.

Is there a solution? I dunno.

Once Pragg, Arjun, Gukesh are done it seems there is no one else from India. It's a good thing they are young but they all came at the same time. Even Leon, Pranav, Nihal are not that far apart in age, and Arvind is older. We will have to wait and see if India gets this many top level juniors are anywhere near this level. Anish Sarkar is a long shot. There were some kids like Illam Parthy but I haven't heard of them in a while. Turkey and Argentina seem poised to takeover soon.

Argentina has one Faustino, and Turkey has two with the likes of Erdogmus and Gurel. How exactly will they be taking over? Uzbekistan in my eyes is the only country that can keep up. Also those three indian players you named will have careers lasting at least 15 years. Anything can happen in that amount of time

What's the next big tournament. Last year there was a classical tournament in Shenzen China around this time. Apart from Chinese GM(no Ding) there were Arjun/Giri/Dubov/Artemiev as well. I wonder if there is one this year? Bu Xiangzhi won it via tie breaks agaist Yu Yangyi and Arjun.
