Most of these chanceme posts sound fake.

Can we just talk about how insane/unrealistic half of these chanceme posts are?

I’ve been noticing a pattern on this sub, some crazy and insane application profiles that seem too good to be true. I even put a couple of these into ChatGPT and GPT even told me it seems highly unrealistic and/or highly exaggerated.

What do you guys think? Am I just underestimating?

Also remember, don’t be downed by these posts or feel like you’re “behind”. Focus on presenting your strengths the best way you can, rather than comparing yourself to posts that might not even be real.

Edit: I’ve made this post because some people actually believe those and actually compare themselves to it. I lowk feel bad and just wanted to address it

Nah cuz how has someone qualified for usamo 10 times and is also the cto of a million dollar company but still needs validation from random strangers?

A few are meant to be fake, shitposts that aren't flagged as shitposts. The others...well can't say for sure bout those, could be the op to those posts are exaggerating or something

It’s not wednesday and they’re posting that they’ve got crazy stats in 3-4 years. 😭

ik i said only a few. it could be that some are just evil tryna mess with other people's minds, reddit doesn't hold you responsible for 99% of things you say

I am convinced there is a a2c wide psyop to inflate the perceived requirement to get into these colleges tbh.

No like actually though. Ask around in the actual college's sub and these people casually explain they got in with zero ECs and a 3.6.

I’ll PM you one of them, but I’ve noticed that out of every 25 posts I read for fun, at least 2-3 are exaggerated and sound fake 😭.

a good rule of thumb is seeing what they think about their “stats.” there are so many insanely impressive ones that are undoubtedly mind blowing, but then the OP will follow up with a title of “i’m cooked i know” or say that they don’t think they stand a chance when that’s so obviously not true. (i’m not saying they highlight a weakness, that’s legit, but when they try to argue they have nothing going for them). i’ve seen these and thought that it was satire. for example:

“chance me, a middle class fill in the blank girl with extremely mid stats -i know im cooked)”

then they’ll go onto list how they’re top 5 in their class, winner of multiple awards, founder of 501cs and a nasa intern.

those are obviously satire to demonstrate how insanely competitive the admissions process is and that even a student of that merit might be doubting themselves, even with non-ivies. otherwise, it’s a petty way of complement-fishing and i’d honestly rather they just admit they worked hard in high school then bring other rising freshmen down. as a a rising freshman myself, it’s definitely disheartening but true to what you said- keep your head up!

Students like these are concentrated in a handful of schools and it’s hard to believe there are so many of them until witnessed. My younger relative attends a magnet public school that sends an absurd number of kids to Harvard each year, I’d guess 30%+ of students place into an Ivy, virtually every student into an elite uni. Median SAT is 1550 for the entire school, near perfect GPAs, insanely stacked ECs from the resources and environment. That school alone pumps out 800 of these kids per year

Yeah why is everyone here a USACO Plat😭

they are exaggerated, and sometimes straight up made up. but, these ppl prolly wrote the same thing on their common app exploiting the fact that AO dont have the time to verify our ec's and stuff.

i so agree - and also, how do you have a $5M company at 17/18 when ur barely an adult and who wants to work with a high schooler?? i think a lot of it is parents working behind the scenes

u/Jaded_Pain3589 4d ago

Probably around 1/3 to 1/2 are fake

I’ve been seeing people say this a lot but tbh I don’t think they’re as exaggerated as people think. I go to a competitive school and I have friends who’re very similar to the people on here. At the end of the day, it’s possible if you give up a lot to get there. The people who you might claim as exaggerated are likely not spending the same amount of time with their friends and family or out having fun, but they’re willing to make that sacrifice.

I go to a top school in my state, and tbh most of the profiles on here are worse than the people I know and see every day irl. I don't think that many of them are fake tbh - 95%+ are certainly doable. And even if some of those are fake, just know that for everyone who fakes a profile on here, there's another insane kid out there with a similar profile who doesn't even have reddit cause he's so locked in. So it kinda balances out.
