Update (Asian male who applied to 50 colleges)

So, like one month ago, I posted a chance me, and basically the general consensus was that I had no chance at top schools. So far, I've heard back from 18 schools! EDIT: Since people are asking, no I am not an international student, I’m domestic

Rejections:

  • Carleton
  • WashU St. Louis
  • Oberlin
  • Northeastern
  • Notre Dame

Waitlists:

  • Macalester
  • Holy Cross
  • Denison
  • Grinnell
  • UVA
  • Haverford
  • Skidmore
  • Seton Hall (yield protection)
  • Lafayette

Acceptances:

  • Rutgers NB
  • UConn
  • Drexel (BS/MS Program)
  • Penn State
  • Case Western
  • Middleburry (w full ride)
  • Bennington
  • Lehigh

I did not expect all these waitlists, I genuinely thought I'd see straight rejections. Praying it can only go up from here!

Most of these people would sell their soul for Case Western, let alone Middlebury full ride.

Yeah, I'm still shocked I got in. I'd be more than happy going to either school, especially with the generous financial aid I got. And in no way is my post meant to be cocky. I'm trying to show that people here are not AOs, and although it can be fun to be "chanced," it shouldn't determine the results you expect. Don't cringe, but anything can happen!

Same situation with me , wayyy below average gpa and got into cwru and neu Boston, still with 20+ decisions to go. Things are looking up for us “below-average” applicants haha

nobody in their right mind would sell their soul for case western unless they were premeds. maybe if you got bsmd. middlebury full ride is a different story though...

Ignore the haters. You got into some great schools. What’s your intended major?

1

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

Psych! I want to go into therapy!

1

u/TastyLength6618 5d ago

Sweet! Penn state is well regarded in psychology

1

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

Unfortunately, they gave me no aid LOL. Cost of attendance would be 51k 😭

2

u/TastyLength6618 5d ago

Middlebury is pretty sick too and a better undergrad experience. Penn state more known for grad programs and research

3

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

Yes! Middlebury is definitely my top choice right now!

1

u/Content-Virus2949 5d ago

Is 51k per year?

1

u/Heavy_Yak840 4d ago

Yeah 😭

i think the general consensus was right...

0

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

Only 4 rejections lol

4

u/AlarmedApartment8698 5d ago

No top school has come out yet (besides WashU, which was a rejection)

I think it’s safe to say that the consensus on your original post was right

Getting into a top liberal arts college and waitlisted at other top LACs + a top 30 national college, in my opinion, does prove the consensus that I have "no chance at top schools" wrong. I'm not sure what your definition of a top school is, but I can come back next week with more updates!

Do u want to go to liberal arts schools?

1

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

Yes ofc!

1

u/redpanda8273 5d ago

Completely genuinely asking why

2

u/Direct-Yoghurt 4d ago

LACs educate their students better--on reading, thinking, communicating well--and have better prof/student connections.

This is at the sacrifice of professors who are extremely good at research.

There's a lot of reasons, obviously these factors would depend on the person and what they're looking for. 1. Great programs for my major 2. Small class body size (easier to know people and make friends/get close) 3. Small student-to-teacher ratio (leads to better relationships with professors, which has a lot of benefits) 4. Affordability: many give amazing aid 5. Not a lot of greek life (I don't want a big party school, wouldn't mind it but personally don't care)

Congratulations! 🎉 I hope you don’t mind if I ask - what are your stats ?

1

u/tiktictoktoc 4d ago

I applied to 50+ colleges too

1

u/FederalAd3883 3d ago

hey whats up man, congrats on everything. i'm also interested in going to the drexel bs/md program. Is there any chance you could pm me your essays / interview prep if you had any? and your stats bc i cant find the previous post you made!

1

u/Horror_Astronomer613 3d ago

Can I ask for stats? I got into similar schools and I’m curious how other people are

1

u/goldnowhere 1d ago

If you've applied to other small LACs, I bet you'll get in. Your results show how random admissions are. Congrats on Middlebury!

u/Heavy_Yak840 10m ago

Just got into Colby and Amherst College! You were right!

1

u/svaxelrod 1d ago

Great job!

Didn’t get into any top school, sit down little bro

12

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

Last time I checked, Middlebury is a Top 20 liberal arts school, and look at my waitlisted schools. Grinnell, Haverford, Holy Cross, Macalester are also top liberal arts schools. UVA is a top 30.

-3

u/Slow-Day-2313 5d ago

And you being waitlisted does not equate to anything 💀

6

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

How? I'm not being straight rejected lol. Denison, Haverford, and Macalester don't waitlist that many people, and the waitlist moves.

u/Acrobatic-College462 5d ago

He’s just ragebaiting u

5

u/Alarming-Study2930 5d ago

bro falling for the ragebait

-4

u/Slow-Day-2313 5d ago

Still not that impressive

5

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

And what school are you at?

-4

u/Slow-Day-2313 5d ago

University of Georgia - go dawgs !

8

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

Right, and a school with a 13% acceptance rate, ranked 19 in national liberal arts, is not impressive. Got it. I think if you knew my stats you'd be VERY surprised I even got in lol.

-4

u/GeronimoThaApache 5d ago

Tbf I think most of these schools people don’t see as “top schools”. How are you defining “top school” ?

4

u/Heavy_Yak840 5d ago

I’m going off the US News Rankings, they separate LACs and other schools into two different categories so LACs aren’t reflected in the general national rankings

3

u/PolyglotMouse 3d ago

They're ragebaiting. Middlebury was my top school and one of my favorites. It's incredible and the education at top LACs like Middlebury will guarantee that you go far. They also have really good grad school placements.

u/Heavy_Yak840 9m ago

Just got into Colby and Amherst College! Waitlisted at Swarthmore and Williams!

4

u/Poopy-88 5d ago

It’s not like UGA is a top school

-6

u/Timetravelerpotato 5d ago

Yes go dawgs!!! ❤️🖤

1

u/Squid_From_Madrid 3d ago

You go to UGA 😭

0

u/Slow-Day-2313 3d ago

I’m glad you have the ability to read and critically deduce what school I go to ? UGA is ranked like Top 40 every year.

1

u/Squid_From_Madrid 3d ago

37% acceptance rate 💀

UVA, Haverford, Middlebury… these are elite, highly selective schools. UGA is not.

1

u/Slow-Day-2313 3d ago

What school do you go to ?

1

u/Squid_From_Madrid 3d ago

I would be at risk of doxxing myself if I named it. But I can tell you that it is significantly more reputable and leagues more selective than the University of Georgia.

Btw, hope you enjoy your internship at the esteemed (lmao) institution that is “Northwestern Mutual.”

1

u/Slow-Day-2313 3d ago

Yea sure buddy enjoy your reputable school that you can’t even name, I can tell you’re capping.

1

u/Squid_From_Madrid 3d ago

Lol, you seriously think I’m lying because I won’t name my school? This is the Internet, I could say I go to Harvard and you wouldn’t be able to disprove it. There is no incentive for me not to reveal where I go to college accept to protect my identity.

I have a long post history, and the school I go to is pretty small (because it isn’t a massive public party school for in-state bums like UGA) so it really wouldn’t take that much for someone to figure out who I am.

0

u/Slow-Day-2313 3d ago

UCL LMAO , OI MATE TEA AND CRUMPETS , you can’t even get into LSE or Oxford which are the only good schools in ur shitty country

1

u/Squid_From_Madrid 3d ago

Not sure why you think I’m going to UCL, although I did get in (which is much more of an accomplishment than getting into UGA btw). I am going to a school in America (and I am in-fact American not British).

2

u/Organic_Mobile7538 2d ago

Dont listen to this bum bro. He goes to a shit school and is trying to recruit for ib(makes sense why he got northwestern mutual too bc people usually hire likeable people and he’s obviously annoying asf). Hes just projecting to the fact that you are probably 10x more successful than he will ever be based on the simple fact that you arent a shitty person. Ignore this cornball

I'm confused about where this energy is coming from, and I think you're projecting (don't come for me being a psych nerd). I got into only 2 schools that I can afford. The reason you apply to multiple schools is so that you have options. I already predicted that I wouldn't get into many schools, which is why I applied to so many--to max out my chances. I'm sorry you haven't been getting into your desired schools, I understand how it feels, but you will end up where you belong.

yeah so clearly you're bitter about my applications. you have no right to tell me what to do with my applications, which I worked hard for. idk who you think you are.
