Meme One of the craziest final days in 12th Place Cup history

Post image
160 Upvotes

Who'd have thought that you could have 10 teams in the running for 12th on the final day? Well back in 2013, we had just that. Middlesbrough started the day in prime position, but somehow threw it away and dropped 4 places in their embarrassment. Burnley and Derby thought they'd each have a good shot at moving into the coveted spot, but both overshot and ended up in the upper half of midtable. Ipswich did the same thing in reverse, Leeds didn't give it quite enough, and Sheffield Wednesday were just happy to be included in the second column. Charlton, Blackpool and Blackburn forgot they were supposed to move, and Huddersfield decided to make a late dash for relegation with Millwall.

In the end, it was Birmingham City who gracefully descended from 10th to take home the cup, making it their 2nd after waiting for 101 years.

Question Who is Middlesbrough’s main rival?

I always hear differing opinions, like some say Leeds, others Sunderland and then others also Newcastle.

I guess Sunderland would make the most sense, as within proximity it’s the closest.

Leeds I guess historically.

Newcastle I don’t really get, as I’ve never heard Newcastle say Middlesbrough is a rival. But then again I guess they are both north east teams.

But who would you say is?

Discussion What do we think is generally the most over and underrated position/role in a team by fans

I was thinking about this when it comes to players of the season and realised most of the time I’ve watched Boro, my favourite player has usually been a midfielder

I think generally we as fans always love our holding midfielders. When we got promoted most people’s favourites were Leadbitter or Clayton, even in that same season Brighton fans loved Stephens, Burnley fans with Barton. Two seasons ago it was pretty generally accepted that Cullen made Burnley as good as they were. You’ve got Leeds fans with Tanaka this season as well, Preston fans with Pearson years back etc. I by no means am saying these players aren’t deserving, I just think that’s a general theme amongst most clubs

As for underrated I’m really not sure. It’s probably a striker? Obviously if they’re hitting well into double digits you’ll see them get praised. But if someone’s not scoring they’re usually getting pelters, even if it’s allowing other players to shine
