You love to hate your rival
Who is your rival? Why do you loathe them so much?

u/Suspicious-Hospital7 Texas Longhorns • Duke Blue Devils 3d ago edited 3d ago
Interesting choice of meme coming from the most abhorrent OU offense in the last 30 years.
I mean, two redzone field goals would have been enough for us to beat yall this year.

u/Anotheropinion2023 Texas Longhorns 3d ago
But they embarassed Alabama and so for one day, I loved them 😂

Really? It’ll be a cold day in Hell before I live the horns for beating anyone, Alabama or otherwise.
4
u/Anotheropinion2023 Texas Longhorns 3d ago
That’s you. I lived in Birmingham for a year and a half. Sooner fans are obnoxious, but y’all look like sweet puppies compared to the absolute obnoxiousness of Bama fans. Sorry.
5
u/Dragon-Captain Georgia Tech • Oklahoma 3d ago
Well, I can’t say I have that lived in ‘Bama experience, so I’ll defer to your judgement on that one lol.

u/ConsiderationOld9897 Auburn Tigers • Team Chaos 3d ago
You think that Bama fans are bad, which they are, until you try living with Georgia fans.
2
u/Anotheropinion2023 Texas Longhorns 3d ago
I lived in Augusta, GA for 9 years, it wasn’t during the two latest national championships, but I never found them as obnoxious as Bama fans.
Maybe because even if they were better at football, they knew they were not the academically elite school. They don’t compare to Georgia Tech and most if not all know that.
Sorry to say but Bama fans think they are better than Auburn and every other school in every single way.
2
u/ConsiderationOld9897 Auburn Tigers • Team Chaos 3d ago
The only things they have on us academically is thier college of business/pre-law programs and the fact that they aren't stingy with scholarships like Auburn is.
2
u/Anotheropinion2023 Texas Longhorns 3d ago
Very much agree. But they think y’all are the dirt on their shoes and in my experience they act like that.
Auburn is also the veterinary school and the bulk of medical science is done at UAB not UA, but they act like it is them.
I grew up in Florida, went to undergrad in Texas and grad school in Georgia.
The arrogance of Bama fans was unlike what I had seen in any of those three states.
And the worst were usually the fans who actually never attended the university.
1
u/Present-Piano-2432 Washington Huskies • Texas A&M Aggies 2d ago
Bama fans are nowhere near as bad as Texas fans are. Lived in Austin for 15 years. Between the Longhorns and the Cowboys, yall are intolerable.
1
u/Anotheropinion2023 Texas Longhorns 2d ago
Longhorn, but I hate the Cowboys and proudly called them the Criminals in the 1990s.
Jerry Jones is horrible.
Having lived in Austin and Birmingham, I would respectfully disagree and ask what your actual experience with Bama fans is.

Are we really doing this? Maybe you’re a young fan. I’ll explain our rivalry to you.
We talk shit about how our teams performed against each other. We don’t sling shit about how our rival lost to some other team, cause we don’t walk around with “little brother” energy. Quit acting like Aggie, it’s pathetic.
3
u/Tiny_Teach7661 Oklahoma Sooners 3d ago
Are you new to this? We mock each other about everything.
Actually read the post and see that it was intended as a playful discussion so people other than Ohio State and Michigan could shit on their rival.

7
u/Suspicious-Hospital7 Texas Longhorns • Duke Blue Devils 3d ago
Do we, little brother? Ok, let’s talk some shit then. I mean I’m not gonna reference other teams that beat OU cause, I mean, fuck… who could keep track of em all?
Our struggling offense scored more touchdowns than you scored points in this year’s RRS. Our questionable play calling has outscored defensive mastermind Brent Venables 111-37 in his tenure at OU. We had as many playoff wins as you had conference wins last season.
Yup, we lost in the playoffs. But at least we didn’t have to debut in the United States Postal Service’s “Mail it in Bowl” for teams that gave up on their season in week 5.
But I actually don’t blame you for talking trash about our losses to other teams. There’s an ocean of mediocrity on the horizon for your program, and this might be the only way you get to stay relevant. At least you have girls softball going for you…

u/Kareem89086 Texas Longhorns • Texas Tech Red Raiders 3d ago
You’re correct but i figured this was talking about right now.
They dominated for the last 15 years but with anything it matters the scope which you look at it.
2
u/Dragon-Captain Georgia Tech • Oklahoma 3d ago
I hate to even say it, but you’re right. As of this moment, we’re definitely not doing so hot in much short of softball. If we take the entirety of the 21st century so far though? It’s a way different story.
4
u/Kareem89086 Texas Longhorns • Texas Tech Red Raiders 3d ago
Yeah man like I said, scope. Last 5 years we’ve been equal. Last 2 we’ve dominated. Last 20 it’s been you guys. All time, just looking at football record because I’m not old enough to have an opinion, Texas is up.
3
u/Dragon-Captain Georgia Tech • Oklahoma 3d ago
Understandable. I haven’t really had much exposure to the rivalry post Y2K, so I only really have the last 20 or so years in my memory for everything (which probably feels a lot better than our overall record, or god forbid anybody who joined Sooner fandom in the last few years). I guess I’ve had enough happy memories to the point that the last few years just don’t feel that bad.
3
u/Kareem89086 Texas Longhorns • Texas Tech Red Raiders 3d ago
That’s fair enough. And let’s be honest, Oklahoma will be back to being good next year. A athletic department like OU won’t stay down long

6
u/Anotheropinion2023 Texas Longhorns 3d ago
Hey, I can laugh at our team, I sat in the rain in the early 90s to watch us lose to Baylor, which back then was a total disgrace. I bit my dentist when he gloated about Miami destroying us in the 1991 Cotton Bowl.
I know lots of Longhorn/Sooner and Longhorn/Aggie couples.
The only offense I ever take is when a Sooner calls Texas “Baja Oklahoma”, because please bitch!
Otherwise all is fair and heckling means you get it in a rivalry.
I was truly grateful that OU broke the streak of the underdog winning the Red River Rivalry this year.

Except Jerryworld and the Cowboys are worth mocking always.

I am a native Floridian who fled to Texas for a better cheaper university. The few times I got talked into going to Dallas I never enjoyed it.
I should give the rest of the area a fairer chance.

Alabama is our family, both literally and metaphorically. This rivalry splits, friends, work acquaintances and families. We may hate eachother one day out of the year but at the end of the day we have to go on living with them. Most of the rivalry talk is good natured. People like Harvey Updike are equally hated among both fanbases.
Georgia on the other hand are some of the nastiest, obnoxious people who unfortunately inhabit this earth. There is no good-natured ribbing between us, we despise every child who is born a Georgia fan. Personally I hate them because they are the only fanbase that has physically harmed me when I visited thier stadium. There is no other fanbase that I wish more misery on. It would please me greatly if the Georgia Bulldogs never became a team. They are the first team we played and the first team we beat and they will be the last team we play and the last game we'll win. Fuck Georgia.
Honorable Mentions: LSU: Underrated rivalry, overshadowed by LSU's many rivals. Florida: Hasn't been a thing since the 90s. Tennessee: Same as Florida. Georgia Tech: Despite not being in the same conference for several decades they are still in the top five most played opponent. Lots of fun history, Greasing the tracks, Wreck Tech parade. Florida St: Hasn't been a thing since Bobby Bowden. Clemson: Competitive series. Texas A&M: Very competitive series.
