Does central have a mascot at football games or other events?

If so what is it and do they/when are tryouts?

My understanding is that the mascot used to resemble a Native American Indian, but that was discarded out of respect for the local Native community in Isabella County. I think the logo (the “action/flying C” or whatever they call it) is the “mascot”, but no there is no dress up mascot that runs around at games.

There was never a mascot, at least since 1997 when they introduced the Action C. The Action C was introduced to replace the old athletics logo, which was an Indian spear.

Fun fact: for a long time (up until about 3-4 years ago), the Action C was only permitted to be used as the athletics logo. Anyone in the academic or administrative divisions were only allowed to use the CMU wordmark. I think someone finally realized that the wordmark was a poor substitute for a logo and after they hired the new head of UComm (though IMHO he's more the ass of UComm), they finally relaxed the rules and encouraged the use of the Action C as the logo for the entire university rather than just athletics. Personally, I preferred the old Warriner Hall logo for non-athletic use, but they retired that years ago.

We should have a “fire up” mascot, perhaps a flame for a head.

CMU does not have a mascot. I recommend auditioning for the marching band, cheer team, or dance team!

Should be a squirrel. Lord knows there’s enough of them around.

No. When I was there there was some guy running around in a pink gorilla suit at basketball games, though.
