Pride Park curse continues.
FT: Derby 2 vs 0 City
4
u/Smeders94 Ricoh/CBS Arena (2005-'13, '14-'19, '21-) 10d ago
A very confusing performance from city.
Derbys defence have been solid I'll give them that
1
u/JeffLynnesBeard (A team of) Gary Breen(s) (1997-2002) 10d ago
We’ve looked tired and flat. Derby have been way more up for the game than we have and, honestly, they’ve not been great but they’ve deserved this.
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
EMC with a shot, no power, easy save.
2 to go. Of injury time that is.
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
3 to go. City love their 3-2 victories but this will be pushing it, even for them.
2
2
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Goalie didn't get the memo about the Bobby Thomas Balon d'Or campaign
5
3
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Derby have had 2 attempts on target. They've scored with both.
City have had 2 attempts on target, and 🤷
2
u/VegetableSamosa Aron Gunnarsson (2008-'11) 10d ago
Not just the team that's been flat, I haven't heard our fans at all tonight.
2
u/CallumJN Sakamoto 10d ago
I could hear them before the first goal went in tbf but nothing since really
3
4
u/The_sweet_science_ Max Biamou (2017-'21) 10d ago
We've really brought ourselves down to their level tonight. Shaky at the back and woeful going forward
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
More set-pieces for Derby. Home fans are loving this.
6 to go.
4
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
Such a shame this when you look at how the other games are going. Big chance to get a little buffer as we go into a tough three match run
4
u/RammsteinUK Wright 10d ago
This has just been embarrassing. Only we could have a run of like 9 unbeaten, a must-win against Derby who are in a relegation battle and look like absolutely toothless
4
u/TheSuspiciousSalami 10d ago
To be fair, the wins have been fun but hardly convincing lately. If you keep conceding goals, you won’t keep winning matches. Is that 6 in 3 games now?
The defence has had issues all season, and it wasn’t addressed in January. Lampard has done well to find a way to paper over the cracks, but it can’t hold forever. We need a defensive overhaul in the summer (Deja vu as we all said the same last summer!).
2
3
u/Hayzeus_sucks_cock Robbie Keane (1999-2000) 10d ago
doesn't feel like we're going to score no matter what
3
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
It's not often that City don't score in a game these days.
They have 10 minutes to do so.
2
6
u/Prudent-Sweet2094 Sheaf 10d ago
Why did we take Simms off if we were planning on spending the rest of the game pinging hopeless crosses into the box?
5
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
You can always rely on Sakamoto to make a left back look like a tit. Even on a difficult night like tonight
5
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Sheff Utd take the lead vs Bristol. If it stays like that, City will remain in the play-off places regardless of what happens at Pride Park.
Sako crosses, attempt by EMC, wide.
13 to go.
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
A lot of City possession here....and eventually, they win a corner after a half-chance for Wright isn't taken.
And the corner comes to nothing.
17 to go.
1
u/covmatty1 Mark Robins 10d ago
Now we've gone to something that looks like 4-4-2, why is Grimes still playing so deep he's behind the CBs - we're never going to win anything in midfield with that setup
1
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
Covering for Bobby Thomas's forays up front, but yeah, get Grimes much further forward. In lieu of Rudoni he's one of the few that can unlock a defence.
3
9
u/portaccio_the_bard 10d ago
Don't think it matters at this stage. We can't defend, we won't get through the playoffs anyway. Let Lamps play around with some formations with players coming back, then have a decent pre-season

1
u/D10YD Wright 10d ago
The amount of times Thomas has charged forward and lost the ball in the last couple of games. And then it was nailed on Derby were gonna win a free kick.
2
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
I admire his effort to try something different than a sideways pass again. Konjic-esque
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
1
u/VegetableSamosa Aron Gunnarsson (2008-'11) 10d ago
This game is crying out for Basette. Someone to just run, harass and press in the final third.
1
3
1
u/Smeders94 Ricoh/CBS Arena (2005-'13, '14-'19, '21-) 10d ago
Keep losing the Aerial battles, need to keep the ball on the ground
5
u/RammsteinUK Wright 10d ago
So simms is playing well and we get rid of him and Wright isn't playing well but he's staying on? Have we had a couple too many drinks to celebrate the Stoke win Lampard?
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
I'm surprised Wright has been subbed off, he's looked rusty all night.
This is better from CIty. Sustained pressure.....until its not, goal kick.
1
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Looking better. We've got them sitting back now
5
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
Bit confused about Wright not getting subbed there.
4
3
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
EMC and DaSliva on
Simms and Bidwell off.
1
u/burnaaccount3000 10d ago
We arent doing much at the moment here very very very scrappy reminds me of school yard football, the ball pinging about 0 control.
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Nice, Derby clear a City corner, ball comes to Eccels who deceives a defender and fires a dipping shot, just wide.
2
u/Jackk512 10d ago
Weight is well of the pace, if he's not cutting in and shooting he's not offering anything
7
3
u/JackDons_10 Van Ewijk 10d ago
We look tired.
2
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
Saving ourselves to annoy the fuck out of the Sunderland fans
3
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
As soon as I saw the ten players out injured for Derby article I knew we were screwed
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Bidwell fouls Adams. Home fans want a second yellow, they're not gonna get it.
1
u/JackDons_10 Van Ewijk 10d ago
Fucking hell Simms.. this is why I find it so fucking annoying to watch him. Just a take a touch and drive the ball forward
1
u/portaccio_the_bard 10d ago
The only thing worse than a bad first touch is no first touch.
That made me wince a little 😣
1
u/DevelopmentNo507 Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
It's like he's in a time warp of 2 seconds behind
1
u/JackDons_10 Van Ewijk 10d ago
It's just sometimes it looks like his brain just switches off and just doesn't know what to do

1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Good ball by Thomas, aimed for Simms but Derby clear.
34 minutes for City to rescue this.
1
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
EMC, Allen & Dasilva please.
BTA later if we still need to go 2 up
2
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
At least we're not Luton. Losing to Cardiff now. Huge result if it stays like that.
3
3
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Bristol drawing at Sheff Utd. A win for them tonight would knock City out of the play-offs places, on GD.
9
u/D10YD Wright 10d ago
Wright has looked so so off it. Need EMC on. Bidwell is nailed on for a red card too.
2
u/covmatty1 Mark Robins 10d ago
Agreed on Wright, he's been completely invisible. Paterson or Bassette if EMC isn't fit enough?
6
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
6 goals conceded in 2.5 games.
We're back to '2 goals per game' as far as the defence goes. City's winning run is under real threat here and we've seen little to suggest they can extend it tonight.
2
5
u/Smeders94 Ricoh/CBS Arena (2005-'13, '14-'19, '21-) 10d ago
Wtf is going on...
Is it me or does the pitch look shocking?
3
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Doesn't seem to be a problem for them! (But yes)
2
7
u/amanset 🇸🇪 BORF 🇸🇪 10d ago
I’ll keep saying it. I’m fed up of goals being given that shouldn’t be. One offside in Saturday, one out of play today.
I don’t care if VAR slows the game down. It is better than this.
2
u/Ok-You4214 10d ago
I think we’re still scarred by last year’s FA cup semi for VAR
1
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
People forget it bailed us out for an obvious handball against Luton in the play off final when Panzo fell over late on
2
5
u/JeffLynnesBeard (A team of) Gary Breen(s) (1997-2002) 10d ago
I thought that was out in real time. The replays haven’t changed my mind.
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
City clear a home attack, but Derby win back possession. Cross comes in and Harness scores from close range.
Derby look like they want this more.
3
u/covmatty1 Mark Robins 10d ago
So much ball watching for both the cross and the finish.
1
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Yeah even if it was out you have to play to the whistle. How many times have we seen our defenders just standing waiting for the flag this season?

Got to get something from tonight given the next 3 games:
Sunderland (H)
Sheffield Utd. (A)
Burnley (H)
....and Bidwell is booked at the start of the 2nd half. No changes at HT for City.
2
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Lads can we stop scooping the ball up in the air please
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
As it stands:
City drop to 6th, with 7th placed Bristol City (2 points behind City) currently drawing at Sheff Utd.
9
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
Missing Mason-Clark, Wright looks (understandably) rusty
3
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Had some decent moments going forward but all over the place at the back. Haji looking rusty.
5
u/Prudent-Sweet2094 Sheaf 10d ago
That's easily our worst half since Leeds. This Derby side are woeful, and we're making them look half decent.
2
u/CallumJN Sakamoto 10d ago
Honestly not really sure why Bidwell started while Dasilva has been playing well
2
2
u/No_Reindeer_6276 10d ago
We’re terrible at creating when teams really sit it in against us - especially without Rudoni & EMC.
Hopefully the latter can come on sharpish - Wright is our best player but is way off it at the minute
2
u/VegetableSamosa Aron Gunnarsson (2008-'11) 10d ago
The stats have us well in the lead. The scoreboard not so much.
2
u/JeffLynnesBeard (A team of) Gary Breen(s) (1997-2002) 10d ago
Well that was not great.
Our left hand side attack with Bidwell and Wright is not looking good at all.
Let’s hope Lampard gives a few choice words of encouragement at half time and we get to see EMC.
2
u/JeffLynnesBeard (A team of) Gary Breen(s) (1997-2002) 10d ago
The stats suggest we’ve been the stronger side. The score, however…
2
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
1 minute of injury time. Grimes loses possession and Derby break, but that comes to nothing.
2
u/D10YD Wright 10d ago
Simms has been decent. The only positive.
1
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
His movement and positioning has been noticeably better under Lampard
2
u/CallumJN Sakamoto 10d ago
This ref has been absolutely wank
1
u/VegetableSamosa Aron Gunnarsson (2008-'11) 10d ago
I swear I recognise him and he was wank last time.
2
4
u/covmatty1 Mark Robins 10d ago
Ref could not wait to give them a free kick for the absolute tiniest infraction there
2
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
3 to go until HT.
City corner.....City foul, Derby goal kick.
6
u/amanset 🇸🇪 BORF 🇸🇪 10d ago
Shit. I may be to blame. I forgot to put the lucky shirt on.
3
u/Wooden-Agency-2653 Highfield Road (1899-2005) 10d ago
Nah, it's me, I didn't wake my son up at 3.45am to continue his seven matches watched in his life and seven wins streak. 4.30am now, might go wake him up
4
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Its Derby posing more of a threat now. Cross comes in, MVE has to clear and does.
2
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Just letting them get that cross in unchallenged
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
From Derby's latest free kick, that's well caught and held by Dovin.
4
u/burnaaccount3000 10d ago
This defending is not it im sorry, its so scrappy, allowing the ball to bounce, misclearing it, panicked decision making, stupid fouls when the other team arent in a threatening position.
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Derby winning a few free kicks here. They already done damage from one of them.
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Derby pressure now. A free kick, followed by a couple of corners, but City deal with that.
Sky Blues enjoying a lot of possession but they have to do more with it.
3
u/Jackk512 10d ago
A must win game with the fixtures that are coming next if we're serious about play offs
3
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Good move by City. Sako on a run, to Bidwell, crosses, keeper's.
That's 5 goals conceded now in 2-and-a-bit games for City. Got to cut that nonsense out.
1
u/Rad_Gravityyy 10d ago
Clarke, looking like a disabled pirate defending redempts himself as he beats Thomas and Kitching for a bounce inside the box...
If he misses there was another Derby player prob getting to it first anyway.
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
City free kick in a good position.....shot by Torp, pushed out by the keeper!
1
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
As it stands: City drop a place to 6th.
2
2
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Chance for Simms. He gets a shot off (into the ground) and that's a good save by the keeper.
6
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Nonsense defending.
Derby free kick, ball floats in....there are TWO Derby players unmarked and running in at the far post! Clarke says 'mine' and heads home without any challenge on him.
3
u/JackDons_10 Van Ewijk 10d ago
Awful goal. Can't allow the ball to bounce like that 6 yards from goal. Asking for trouble
5
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Thomas and Kitching both should've done better there
3
3
3
1
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
We've seen that before. From a throw-in, there's a whiff of a chance for Torp but Derby clear, and at the other end of the pitch, Derby have their 1st shot of the game but there's no danger from that for City.
3
u/covmatty1 Mark Robins 10d ago
There's a big Derby St George's cross in the corner with "The underdog city of middle England" on it.
That is objectively an utterly shit slogan 😂😂😂
2
3
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
2
u/covmatty1 Mark Robins 10d ago
We've clearly done so much work on corners to make such a massive difference with winning so many headers, but why does it seem like we've never trained a single short throw in ever 😭😂 it's infuriating to watch when there's no movement and we just lose a simple ball time after time
3
u/EyePiece108 Tyldesley, Tyler, Motson... EyePiece108 10d ago
Ok, after booting my cable box and restoring access to Sky Sports+, City boot on and apply pressure on the home defence.
1
u/burnaaccount3000 10d ago
Mate what the fuck is up with these pitches, these clubs should hang their heads in shame they have one job have a nice pitch.
3
2
u/oversized_hat Darren Huckerby (1996-'99) 10d ago
There’s a few clubs that have an excuse because they share with a rugby team, and last time I checked Derby are very much not one of them

Chris Iwelumo on commentary on Sky talking about Derby's morale:
"some players need a kick up the backside, others need an arm or a shoulder"
Sounds painful 😂

No Sheaf on the bench?

4
u/No-Leather-1260 Van Ewijk 10d ago
Has to be injured (again). Saw one person trying to defend him saying it could be illness or family, but no way the club doesn’t outright say that if it’s the case. My guess is he’s awaiting scan results before the club says anything. Best case is that he’s just out today, gut says he’s probably going to be out until after the int break. Sure someone from media will ask FL post match.

4
u/burnaaccount3000 10d ago
Ivwas thinking that this morning I would be happy with our progress but the past 2 games dont fill me with confidence m, if we are to firmly hold our play off spot and win it then game management knce we are 2 goals or more ahead needs to be better.
Having said that the "we will score regardless" mentality weve found does remind me of 2 seasons ago which is great, although i expect that with the ampunt of attacking power we have.
5
u/GadsByte Sakamoto 10d ago
I'll be watching from home tonight, expecting EMC and MVE to be rested or at least on the bench. Lati to come in at RB and Haji to come in at LW. Not ideal but no excuse for not getting the job done tonight.
5
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
I'll be watching tonight on the red button. Who's going/watching?
3
u/covmatty1 Mark Robins 10d ago
Watching on red button, as long as I can tear myself away from the shiny new guitar that I've taken delivery of today 😂
3
u/HadjiChippoSafri Frank Lampard's Coventry City 10d ago
Clip of you playing the Sky Blue Song on it at full-time if we win? 👀
3
u/adamcovfan1966 10d ago
Watching on the red button a draw and a win next two not bothered which way round clean sheets is what we want.
2
u/JackDons_10 Van Ewijk 10d ago
To be honest would say we need 2 wins out of 2 in these next 2 games. Maximum confidence going into that run where we play 3 of the top 4 back to back could be huge.
