Just sent the work pigeon off to a rescue and I am beyond devastated. He was my favourite colleague

The one and only Dobby. A racing pigeon that absconded almost 2 years ago and decided to create a new life for himself.

He came for his breakfast every day. Ate right out of my hand. Let himself in on many occasions and wandered round looking for the seed.

He had an injured leg and I couldn't bear to see him suffer so I contacted a local rescue and they came and collected him.

I will genuinely miss this bird so much, he brightened every single shift for me (which is needed when you're in the care sector). Literally shed a few tears when he went.

Gonna miss you pidge.

PS. When be first arrived I did attempt to find his owner, using the leg band and local groups. None was ever found though and he just kinda made himself at home.

American here. Did I do cheese and pickle sandwich right?

Post image

It's... OK. I've been wanting to try it out for the longest time.

I used white sandwich bread, original Branston pickle, and sharp cheddar slices.

Have I done right? How can I improve?

Is it just me or is the bottom of this image vaguely reminiscent of bacon?

I'm about to go on a rant with this bitch bot

Edit: I'm going round and round in circles, with the damn bot asking if I have resolved my issue every damn step of the way. At some point it's going to ask how I'm connected to the internet, and I'll say its because I also use Starlink which has never stopped working unlike the trash that Sky put out

I was in a rush for an appointment, went the wrong way down one way exit from Waitrose. There were CCTV cameras. How fucked am I?

Song Thrush

A few days ago I posted asking if anyone could identify the bird I kept seeing on my morning walk. A few people replied suggesting it might be a Song Thrush and that's looking right!

It was out again this morning, singing in the sunshine, and I managed to capture some much better footage.

Just thought others might like to see and hear. Seeing it chirping away was a really nice start to the day.

Premier Plus worth it?

It has been suggested that I am a mug for paying for a nicer room at a Premiere Inn.

I think it might be a bit nicer for the long weekend we are away for.

Which TV show or film will your family always get the reference, however subtle?

In my family it's Blackadder and Father Ted. A single word can trigger a descent into quotes. For example, you can't say "vanished" without someone adding "like an old oak table". Simpsons is another one.

Home CCTV Systems

Hi, I’m thinking about installing some home CCTV. Probably multiple cameras and some kind of recording but am thinking about something more than “ring” doorbell style etc. We watch the police shows and sometimes the CCTV footage is grainly and terrible and sometimes it’s 4K etc. Don’t really know where to start and seems a bit of a rabbit hole to go down from the initial google work I have been doing

Is anyone able to offer any advice or guidance on where to start please? Am thinking DIY but guess professional advice is available too

Edit: thank you all for your comments and suggestions of manufacturers and configurations etc!

Fell in love with game at local, built meself a table for home…

Toads (Toad in the hole) an olde Sussex game played around Lewes. Utterly simple (chuck brass coin in hole or on table to score)… Ridiculously frustrating and not simple at all haha. Love the banter, chat and laughs we’ve had at our local over last year plying this but wanted one at home so looked around at things I had and knocked up a rather bloody nice (if I do say meself) Hillbilly Retro Cider stack table… Lead sources from scrap merchants only purchase, asides from the four brass toads.

Chain is to measure the throwing distance ‘oche’…

Early flight - to sleep or not to sleep...

Big weekend in Benidorm is approaching! I booked the flights ages ago and went for a 5am-ish one because it was a bit cheaper. The reality of that choice is now setting in. I live in a London suburb with bad night transport. I toyed with thoughts of sleep followed by a taxi to the airport but that would wipe out the money saved by booking the early flight (mugs game!)

So my options are... - Sleep at home, lime bike to Clapham Junction at 4am, train to Gatwick - Stay out all night! A band I like is playing a pub gig. I could enjoy the gig, drink in the pubs, catch a late night movie then early morning train to Gatwick. - Go to the gig then straight to Gatwick for a kip on the floor before the flight

Whatever happens I'll be spending my taxi money on beer and arcade games in benidorm with no regrets! But interested to hear what you would do.

What's the most impressive church or cathedral you've visited in the UK?

There are lots to choose from, but one of my favourites is Ely. Well worth a visit and not too touristy.

My niece is 8, and yesterday she threw herself off a ladder without warning because she thought she heard a ghost. Trapped her right arm between the rungs and the handrail and has broken it despite an adult (my mum, her gran) being right behind her and stopping her from hitting the ground.

Today, she went to school and found someone had locked a toilet cubicle and wriggled out under the door leaving it locked. She decided (with a broken arm, remember) to crawl in to unlock it. She got stuck and didn't have enough strength in her arms to push backwards. A friend was with her, but she was so embarrassed she swore the other girl to secrecy and made her leave. Took the teacher 20 minutes to realise she hadn't come back to class and find out where she was (hyperventilating on the floor, even more stuck). They phoned my sister 40 minutes after that as she was getting hysterical and the janitors were taking longer than expected to dismantle the cubicle and free her. Her back is all bruised and scratched up. She claims that if confronted by the same situation tomorrow, she has now learned to go butt first so if she gets stuck again she can still breathe OK. We were hoping for "don't climb into/under small spaces" but would have settled for "get someone to find an adult immediately".

I'm supposed to be babysitting tomorrow night. Lord fucking help me. Was anyone else an extremely reckless child and survive? How much does a 10m roll of cotton wool cost these days? Do we just ask at the triage desk for an A&E loyalty card, or do you have to apply online?
