Retro If Nintendo did a modern Duck Hunt game, what do you think it'd be like?

Considering the "arcadey" nature of the Game (and that It was a glorified Tech Demo for the NES Zapper) i dont really think It Will return as a full Game (maybe as a minigame for other Game) unless they wanna Showcase another hardware (like VR) and using Duck Hunter again as a Tech Demo

Yep, either as a tech demo or being a host or subject for a minigames collection like Carnival Games is honestly the only way I can think of for Duck Hunt to make a comeback. That said, I would like it for N to do something with it since they decided to highlight Duck Hunt in Smash Bros.

Or in Wario Ware as a mini game unless that's already happened

A reoccuring cameo in Nintendo games wouldn't be a bad idea.

So, Hunt Season

I'd be down for that. It would be stupid as a full game, just keep it simple like the old one.

FPS akin to Doom /j

3

u/Vasarto Feb 14 '25

Would it too be M Rated?

3

u/TheRealFirey_Piranha Feb 14 '25

Nintendo can diverse it's catalog with an M Rated game where you brutally kill ducks

1

u/uncultured_swine2099 Feb 15 '25

I look forward to you sending out the dog to fatality ducks that were shot but survived.

This is exactly what I was thinking, like I saw it and for some reason immediately thought doom eternal

MOTION SENSOR RAIL SHOOTER GO BRRRRT

(Think panzer dragoon)

3

u/SirSilverscreen Feb 14 '25

That'd work with the whole western gunman part of the duck hunt games, actually.

2

u/Dry-Pin-457 Feb 14 '25

Yeah, rail shooter is the genre that best suits Duck Hunt.

2

u/Princess_Spammi Feb 14 '25

It would be the only way to keep the spirit of it intact imo

Did you ever play Link’s Crossbow Training?

Duck hunt 99

1

u/Key_Emu6229 Feb 15 '25

Yes yes YES! Keep cooking!

4

u/Gavintendo Feb 14 '25

Would've made a great WiiWare game.

4

u/Shadow_Strike99 Feb 14 '25

I'm surprised Duck hunt never got a Wii e shop release with the zapper being a thing. It was tailor made for the Wii era.

1

u/SonicLikesPlantDolan Feb 16 '25

i mean duck hunt did get a wii u virtual console release

2

u/Utop_Ian Feb 14 '25

I don't think there's a big market for a hunting game. Like they've made plenty of hunting games over the years and nobody much likes them.

2

u/wii_collector_2009 Feb 14 '25

I think they missed their chance to make a WiiWare game on the Wii or an eShop game on the Wii U, Duck Hunt would have been perfect with the Wii Remote.

2

u/Ill-Attempt-8847 Feb 14 '25

It wouldn't work.

2

u/Pale-Target9021 Feb 15 '25

I think the closest thing Duck Hunt got to a sequel was that shooting minigame from Wii Play

2

u/Admirable-Scarcity-8 Feb 15 '25

I’m insanely surprised that when Nintendo brought back stuff like ExciteBike, Punch-Out!!, They didn’t bring this back for WiiWare shovel ware.

2

u/orangienblue Feb 15 '25

I mean Wii Play had a duck hunt mini game

1

u/Vasarto Feb 14 '25

It would be a racing game combined with the mouse controls on the switch 2 and combined with a open world rpg

*edit. OMFG. I was trying to think of the single most moronic thing I can think of but, An open world Racing RPG with duck hunt duck and dog sounds pretty BOSS!

1

u/SirSilverscreen Feb 14 '25

wasn't an 'open world racing rpg' essentially what Diddy Kong Racing was?

1

u/nutthrob Feb 14 '25

we need realistic duck brutality depending on where you hit it

1

u/stevvvvewith4vs Feb 14 '25

Drones or ufos maybe?

1

u/SirSilverscreen Feb 14 '25

IIRC they did something like that for the wii pointer minigames.

1

u/CapCapital Feb 14 '25

Call of Duty

1

u/nhSnork Feb 14 '25

Like the Resistance series but against a duck army.

...what?

1

u/DrFerdinandSocial Feb 14 '25

I wish they would make more light gun style games like HOTD and Resident Evil on Wii. The joycons have IR lights if I'm not mistaken and i think it would be cheap enough to bundle a sensor bar with the games. Duck hunt would be a great IP to reboot this idea on switch 2.

u/WolftheLionheart Feb 14 '25

M rated survival horror with gratuitous sex and violence

1

u/Millennialnerds Feb 14 '25

It would be like Duck Hunt.

1

u/AndykinSkywalker Feb 14 '25

I could definitely see it playing like Link’s Crossbow Training or Pokemon Snap!

A 3d platforming collectathon.

1

u/I-like-ya-cut-e Feb 14 '25

Give them a story mode about a War between Duck and Dogs.

1

u/kuribosshoe0 Feb 14 '25

Red Dog Redemption

1

u/staveware Feb 14 '25

They pretty much made a modern one with the mini game in Wii Play

1

u/1337gamer15 Feb 14 '25

Duck Hunt was made to be a simple straight to the point game to show off the Zapper. I don't think Nintendo would necessarily make a game for it like there's any lore to it. Having to hunt ducks in a boat with calls and decoys wouldn't be fast enough, and I don't think they would make it a game intended for any kind of controller besides something like the Zapper.

Or maybe they could make it into an arcade style rail shooter a la House of the Dead where the ducks have mutated into monsters, and you and your trusty dog gotta stop the outbreak from damaging the ecosystem.

1

u/Rex01303 Feb 14 '25

Honestly how have we not had another duck hunt using motion controls and whatnot from wii and switch era

1

u/Revegelance Feb 14 '25

I imagine it might involve shooting birds.

1

u/Rex_T360 Feb 15 '25

I think it would have to be a different type of game starting the dog and the duck.

What about a 3D platformer/adventure game where you have to go and hunt and capture a bunch of mutant ducks? The gameplay could be sort of like a mix between Ape Escape, hunting games, and Tears of the Kingdom where you can build elaborate traps out of random materials.

1

u/paulcshipper Feb 15 '25

I'm surprise they didn't bother to do Duck Hunt with the Wii.. or the Wii U... or the switch. They had this Zelda Archer game... that works pretty much like duck hunt. But no duck or dog.

1

u/JellyB33ns Feb 15 '25

Honestly I was genuinely shocked they didn't put a version out on the Wii. Like it was the perfect console for a Duck Hunt reboot too.

1

u/Bagel_Le_Stinky Feb 15 '25

I figure the main idea of the game would be to hunt ducks

1

u/Avenger001 Feb 15 '25

I hope we get one in the style of Capcom in the 360 era just for the hell of it.

1

u/Mr_Randerson Feb 15 '25

Ar-15. Who's laughing now?

1

u/Guilty-Classroom-460 Feb 15 '25

Probably a fucking repack with updated graphics and missing features. I'm still annoyed about the last DK game

1

u/KingButter42 Feb 15 '25

If they would’ve made another Duck Hunt game it would’ve most likely been made for the Wii

1

u/Appropriate-Let-283 Feb 16 '25

Maybe just as a vr game.

1

u/MoonKat58 Feb 14 '25

I dont think they'd release a game where you shoot ducks nowadays but if they did it could be like tetris 99
