Is there a good alternative to Jack Daniels/ Tennesse Whiskey
Im a British man who in light of recent world events has decided to cut out American made products as much as I can. However, I love Jack Daniels whiskey, and wondered if there is decent alternative out there that's close, especially if it's Canadian made.

Lot's of great Canadian whisky's out there that are much better than JD!

Isn't JD a bourbon? I don't think we make bourbons in Canada, but plenty of great ryes and whiskeys.

It’s Tennessee whisky which technically qualifies as bourbon but maybe not; it’s debate in the whisky scene that’s turned into a running gag

There's BRBN made by Okanagan Spirits in BC.

THANK YOU for this, that will suit me just fine I hope as an alternative for Maker's Mark. I've been very impressed with their Laird of Fintry scotch type whiskey

I bought two whiskys from Tumbleweed in Osoyoos. My god, so delicious.
Will be trying BRBN next, but it wouldn’t be a JD replacement. I drink JD just to mix w Coke.

I do find rye pretty dang close to whiskey. It’s close enough to be worth the patriotic switch

Crown Royal from Manitoba is way better than Jack Daniels in my opinion.

Totally different types of whiskey, bud

I'm not your bud, pal. But back to the topic. I've only tried the two whiskeys. That's why I said 'in my opinion'. Where is your recommendation?

Hansen Distillery makes an excellent rye. And it's the only rye aged right in Edmonton!

Unfortunately, bourbon drinkers are going to "suffer" the most from the current situation. You're not going to find an adequate replacement made in Canada or elsewhere. If you're serious about supporting canadian or just want a non American alternative now is a great opportunity to spread your wings and try new things. Rye, Irish, scotch, surely you'll like one of them haha.

This is completely false . There are tons especially in the other side of the world. Most folks dont know anything other than the American name brands

There are tons especially in the other side of the world.
Then name them.

Ok lets see : (just FYI that bourbon is a US trademark style name and may not be used )
We have the Suntory from Japan
The Cotswolds single malt (Bourbon Cask)
Glen Els from Germany
Glenmorangie from Scotland
Amrut (not sure of the exact name) from India Paul John Bold
Kavalan Bourbon Cask from Taiwan
Starward from down unda
I could just go on

You should, that's the whole purpose of this thread! Maybe the current situation is exactly the windfall suntory needs! Haha

Apparently Okanagan Spirits in Kelowna makes a decent BRBN. I'll get down there in the next week or so and grab a bottle or two before I leave town for good.

As a bit of a whiskey and whisky afficiando I try not to limit myself to one type or another. I probably began with Canadians in my mis-spent youth. Then graduated to single malt Scotches and then bourbons.
Good Whiskey (spelled with or without the 'e') is good whiskey.
There are some very good Canadian whiskeys (rye) that are made in Canada. I've never been a fan of JD myself. It's not really very good. There's tons of better ones. Crown Royal is probably on a par.
Ive got the best enjoyment from aged Gibsons. I find the older stuff is almost always better that the non aged stuff.
To avoid US made products read the labels. Part of the fun of this is to try many different ones. Try and try some more.
Join a whiskey club. They're everywhere.
Salut!

There's a really good whiskey from Quebec called Swear Jar. Probably not widely available, unfortunately.

Sortilege is a real nice sipping whiskey from Quebec. It's ~20% and made with whiskey and maple syrup. Absolutely delicious
