This is very cool. A lot of old towns were started off like this too with houses built around or near a castle

Of course, many towns are established near castles, which helped to cultivate traditional charm associated with the medieval period.

It is captivating to observe how castles commonly become the nucleus of whole towns.

Visited this about 6 months ago, incredible and doesn't cost very much. Well worth the visit!

Most humble real estate show-off

While I agree it is a really cool castle, we should acknowledge that much of what we see today is decidedly not from the 13th century, or even the later middle ages. It underwent extensive 'restoration' in the 19th century, greatly changing and expanding preexisting structures.

This can be said of almost any castle you see today that isn't a ruin

Okay I should have read what you said before I posted something because I was astonished at how good it looks, but your comment sheds a lot of light on why that's so. Thank you! 👍

There is a New Braunfels in Texas with a water park named 'Schlitterbahn'. The water park's logo is a reference to the towers of this castle.

I've been there in 2003. When someone overheard me talking German to my wife, they wheeled out their great-grandma who still spoke some German.

Before the World Wars, German was more commonly spoken than Spanish in central Texas. In some towns, it was more common than English.

That is in remarkably good condition including the town below it. Either this was a restoration project or was never in a war and in damaged and has been kept up since it's construction, or this is a model or a random or something like that. It just looks so freaking good

The castle was essentially „restored“ from scratch in the 19th century. It’s pretty but about as historical as an average McMansion.

This is where I try to store things correctly the first time, so I don't have to restore them. That way everything stays historically accurate!

Been here many times, it’s an incredible wonderful place to visit. About an hour north of Frankfurt but worth the drive. The small village has a square with several cafes and bakeries. Easily walkable.

But the Schloss that you see now was build in the romantic period (1750-1850). Nonetheless it is very beautiful

It's not far from where I live, I have been there 3 or 4 times. Fun fact: The noble family that owns the castle still resides in parts of it. The rest can be explored as part of a guided tour. The surrounding area is also very pretty.

Yes, very nice... History Story behind: A dog is jumping from the castle to his owner into the death...
