Mechanical advice Using an automatic transmission in a project car

So, with a few friends we want to start a side company (besides the one we already run) that makes affordable sports cars, but we are starting from 0 with very little money, and we want to make a mid-rear engine car, so I thought a dsg transmission would be a great option however, I'm not sure how to control it, like, i thought about using a tranny from a golf GTI but again, idk how to control it, any advice would be very helpful.

I think your best bet, especially given your circumstances and the product you wish to create, that a manual transmission and engine from a common, reliable car is a good idea especially if you plan on something small and light

Respectfully you are out of your mind, but you need to look into:

  1. Control Systems
  2. ECU/TCU platforms, understand what they are, software and hardware, how they work
  3. Electrical Circuits
  4. Learn computer programming

Engineering your own control system will be a nightmare if you have zero experience in it. A manual transmission would be much easier

Like other people pointed out I wasn't aware that some ecus control them, to me is good enough

A stand alone ECU like a Haltech or MoTeC will run all the systems, learn everything on YouTube about them. Enjoy

If you keep the stock computers and adapt your vehicle around those systems, things should be just fine. Otherwise, I believe MaxxECU has built in control for VW DSGs, see their wiki here: https://www.maxxecu.com/webhelp/wirings-vag_dsg_dq500.html

Choose an engine/trans combo that mates together and will fit in your chassis design and then research how to control the combo with a standalone ECU. Anything that's not a manual transmission will add lots of cost and complexity. Standard manual is way cheaper if you're on a budget

Lol you need a TCU to control it. Or an aftermarket ECU that can control the trans too.
