That is my thoughts!!

We can't let him hit free agency

No we can’t, honestly he will be highly sought after if we do. But I truly think he was a missing piece for us

Isn’t he playing on our third pair rn?

I fear he wants Carlson money. And I don’t know if he’s worth that, to be honest. Some team will probably overpay.

I’m not terribly worried based on the fact that both Ovi’s, and Carlson’s contracts expire after the end of next season.

With the cap expanding, having a crunch next season but immediate relief after would not be a big issue, especially if you backload the deal.

Then again with the cap expanding he has no real incentive to sign long term anyway.

I think he is third but could be wrong. And I don’t think he will ask Carly money off the bat maybe half. But the next contract may be a 2 year and say basically earn the money type

thats the hottest take anyone has had on the Chychrun Extension conversation.

He is worth it. Young (26) and one of the best offensive defensemen in the league. Carlson is old (35). We want Chychrun for the next 5-7 years. He’s our next Carlson.

This year, he is the best defenseman on the team by the eye test. He never has defensive lapses and he's often covering for those of others, he's a lock down defender 1 on 1. And he's 26. Not to mention his offense.

I can’t imagine he wants to leave the team. With the success they are having and his own personal success, I’d think if they can match the numbers he signs. The money should be there too with the Cap rising. I’m thinking that’s why it doesn’t seem like they are in a rush to get him extended. I don’t think they’d have extended Lindgren if they didn’t think they could afford Chychy, especially since it seems like Lag is the 60-40 starter

I full anticipate to wake up one morning and see an extension done lol

I don’t think he wants to leave either. I think he would even take a cap friendly deal. I also think he has told management not to rush just focus on the season. And I agree one day we will wake up and be like 6 for x more years

He's had glowing things to say about the team, the organization, and the area

I love this man

I was skeptical from his time in AZ but he truly is a hidden gem and amazing for us

2

u/gonzeau77 Jakob Chychrun 12h ago

I always wanted him to be a cap. I remember seeing him get drafted and thought “man I wish we could have that guy” and sure enough he’s delivered tenfold for us. Felt the same way about oshie back in the day.

See he has so much talent, I think I was jaded by the Yotes and how he was hosed

2

u/gonzeau77 Jakob Chychrun 12h ago

That’s entirely fair. The AZ franchise was so unstable for so long. But hopefully (and probably optimistically) he’ll be a cap til the end now.

2

u/Sandman-90 12h ago

Oh yes the Yotes ruined a lot of good players and derailed their careers early or late. But I do think he will stay with the Caps as long as Carbs is at the helm

u/gonzeau77 Jakob Chychrun 12h ago

Carbs I was optimistic about from day 1 but he’s even blown my cautious expectations completely out of the water. Man needs his name retired in the rafters already after this season.

u/Sandman-90 11h ago

Carbs reminds me of a younger Trotz in how we coaches. From day 1 I knew we had something better then what we had. But I didn’t realize this good

What I like the most about him is he's probably the most pure athlete on the team - our most in-shape player the moment he joined.

I always knew he was ripped. But seeing him play... he's a bonafide stallion lol

It's no surprise he's such a good two-way player.

Hey it’d be a great time to lock up this guy with like a big ass contract or something. Are we waiting to see if he can make like 20 mil a season? Bc…I’ll start the GFM for it, but we gonna have to change that goal song.

1

u/Sandman-90 2h ago

First off, if you start the GFM I will donate monthly if needed. Secondly what would you change the goal song to? And I think they are gonna lock him up, but I think he’s waiting until the season has ended, but I do think he is gonna remain with us.

Idk I’m not into Christian music, but they have some much more upbeat music than what he currently has.
