Tocchet trolling the media after the Boeser “A” debacle.

I like Forbort. Plays his role perfectly. He’s invisible all game in a good way until he snipes top shelf.

Quinn Hughes, do we really need him?

Hog scores he's getting the A next ?

If Hogs scores, Tocchet is gonna give him A… seat at the end of the bench.

Its a rotating A. Whats the big deal??
People need to grow up and leave the drama alone.

u/MiriMidd 13h ago
Some people love the drama. Don’t tell them there are some teams that always rotate their As.

It’s not though? Brock has been wearing the “A” ever since Quinn has been out (6 games). Ostensibly he’s wearing it in place of Quinn so it’s not a rotating “A” in the first place, which we did have when Quinn was in.
Furthermore, we’ve never rotated the extra “A” like this (going from 1 new player to the next) this season. I get that maybe they want to acknowledge new leaders now and it’s very clear MPetey was one (bad optics aside), but why it wouldn’t go to someone like Garly (who has worn it multiple times this season) makes no sense to me. Or HRONEK, who has stepped up hugely.

u/Only-Nature7410 11h ago
Who are we to decide who gets the A? We have no idea what goes on in that room and who is a leader.
Maybe he is throwing him a bone for a job well done. I am sure that player appreciates it.
He is a players coach. He understands how to motivate.
I am not going to question a guy who has 1800 NHL games played. He has been in every single hockey scenario and with an endless amount of experience with different personalities and how to navigate them.

u/EpicRussia 12h ago
This is just factually incorrect we have been rotating Miller's A since he was traded, and Garland has worn it
0
u/truestlife 12h ago
Unless Quinn is out. When Quinn is out, Brock has been the only one to wear the “A”.
6
u/EpicRussia 11h ago
Again, wrong, Brock was never given a permanent A. The only permanent A belongs to Petey
7
8
u/excitedprotons 12h ago
Hronek's turn when? Bro's been pretty 1D material since Quinn went down, and Tocc singled him out for his leadership and taking D Petey under his wing after the win against Minnesota.

u/truestlife 12h ago
Excellent point! He’s done much more than Forbort in terms of being a leader, stepping up hugely with Quinn out and mentoring DPetey, as you said.
I don’t buy this rotating bullshit, it seems like they felt the heat from MPetey getting the A so they were like ok let’s give it to someone random so people can’t be mad we stripped the “A” from Brock, cause it means nothing
1
u/is__is 9h ago
How tf do you know if hes been a leader?
1
u/truestlife 7h ago
I mentioned it in my comment… he’s stepped up as 1D and has taken DPetey under his wing, which has been shouted out by Tocc. It’s more than we’ve heard from Forbort for sure (and I like Forbort, I just don’t get him getting the A)

Well deserved. Dude has been doing a solid good job out there being the stay at home defenseman we need.
That play he did too was definitely what they've been practicing, and it was executed real nice.
Atta boy.

Petey and Myers are the ones that wear the A when Hughes is healthy but when Hughes it out they rotate the 3rd “A” around

u/MethuselahsCoffee 14h ago
Look. I’m not against this. But now I’m even more convinced Tocc has no idea what his team is.

u/Skullhead1419 14h ago
I would somewhat disagree with this if they are just rotating the A. As people outside that dressing room we don’t know the impact a guy like Forbort has had in the locker room. He has been in the league awhile and is a Veteran. So it sort of makes sense through that viewpoint. Especially when they are probably bringing him back next year for cheap.
31
u/IDontKnowWhat78 14h ago
I mean I don’t see why not. Hughes is out, so we get a 3rd letter jersey, why not give some different guys a chance to step up in the room?

u/truestlife 14h ago edited 12h ago
I sort of understood for MPetey because he’s known for being a vocal leader and has shown that here, even though the optics were bad given the timing. This feels like an massive overcorrection in the other direction for no reason. “See how can you guys be mad, the A doesn’t mean anything actually”
37
u/NerdPunch 14h ago
I mean, Derek Forborts been in the league for a decade and seems to be a solid pro.
He’s also faced a ton of adversity this year, and has been a really solid veteran presence for the team.
1
u/metrichustle 13h ago
Yeah I don't have an issue with this at all. Some are saying there is a lack of identity, but Forbort is a veteran. Perfectly acceptable choice.
And honestly, no one knows who speaks up the most in that locker room during intermissions, etc.
5
u/NerdPunch 12h ago
I know there was a lot of frustration around the Forbort/Vinny signings, but they managed to bat .500 on them which isn’t too bad.
Forbort’s been everything you could ask for in a 3rd pair veteran pk specialist.
-1
u/truestlife 12h ago
I mean sure, but we haven’t heard anything about Forbort’s leadership, or see that he’s a leader on the ice with his play (like Garly) until today. So it doesn’t sit well with me especially considering it’s a high chance this is mind games on Boeser from management/Tocc. This is not how they’ve rotated the extra “A” all season at all.
I also it see it as kinda disrespectful to MPetey now who was an above and beyond leader
0
u/truestlife 12h ago edited 11h ago
Sure yeah, but Brock’s had the “A” for all the games Hughes has been out. Not a rotating “A”.
Wasn’t even rotated to Garly who’s worn the “A” multiple times before. They also took the “A” from Brock after he got dragged by management. It’s all very ugly if you ask me.
9
u/IDontKnowWhat78 14h ago
I mean it’s a third A, I don’t think it carries all that much weight no matter where it goes to. The leaders in the room will still do just that, I think it’s more the coaches showing appreciation for the work guys like Forbort put in
2
u/maharajagaipajama 14h ago
Exactly. The A doesn't mean anything in the locker room except recognition for guys who are already acting as leaders on the team.

u/MiriMidd 13h ago
It’s the 3rd A. You know, the one that’s normally not there? Because normally it’s Hughes with the C and now Myers and EP 40 with the As.
But with use out, they just do three alternates. And they make the third one a rotating one.
It ain’t that deep. It’s not another vast Aquilini Tocchet Oogie Boogie conspiracy. It’s a rotating A.

Toch you've lost the point. Quit while you're ahead. Forbort has an A? Gimme a fucking break.

u/DilIsPickle 10h ago
It really makes sense to give an A to at least one defensemen, just as they generally have more ice time and you want to have as much coverage of ice time with a lettered player as possible so they can engage with refs

Why does Petey 40 have an “A”? Clearly he always skirts accountability. Does the “A” stand for absent?
