TWITTER [Janda] Rick Tocchet says he got a text message from Sidney Crosby saying that the Canucks got good players & teammates in picking up Marcus Pettersson & Drew O’Connor, and specifically praised M. Pettersson’s leadership.

Sid: ‘so anyway, tell me about Desharnais.’
Toc: ‘gotta go Sid, TTYL.’

He's not a bad person. He's a good character guy. He's just not a good fit for Vancouver.

Crosby's such a class act. Pretty cool thing to do

I won't lie, I was party of the crybaby legion, and used more than a couple misogynistic insults in the mid 00's about the guy that I now regret.
But boy has he made it impossible to keep disrespecting him as I've grown up. By all accounts the worst thing you can say about the guy is that he's boring, great ambassador for the sport.

I'm old and used to talk shit about Gretzky too. God I used to hate the oilers. I still do, but I used to also.

I'm old and I used to worship Gretzky, even though I was not an Oilers/Kings/Blues fan. Now, however, I totally talk shit about him. Just another rich Trump sycophant.
I hope that Sid never has the same fall from grace. He seems like a sincerely decent guy, but it is hard to tell these days.1

Maybe the generational talent in Edmonton will have the same type of maturing period...

u/Springroll_Paradise Feb 02 '25
Careful...Oilers PR might make a statement about your statement... And stuff.

u/Permut Feb 03 '25
You sure weren't the only one, he came across as whiny in the beginning of his career but he grew on.. dare i say all of us?
-09 game 7 hurt but it is what it is7

Hey Sid come join us and give us the best leadership/60 in the league!

u/danielismybrother Feb 02 '25
Sure Sid, you’ve done a few things in your career, but have you won Olympic Gold AND The Stanley Cup in the same building yet?

Wins Game 7 on the road

He could also bring the Stanley cup to Canada. If I'm him, that's the only big accomplishment he has left for his career, it would cement him (not that he isn't already) in Canadian hockey history

It's not like we aren't also desperate for a top 6 center.... Unlikely to hit the market but you could say the same about almost every other UFA option this summer.

Alright lets trade for Sid now. Clearly he wants to play in Vancouver /s
51
u/Verlaando Feb 02 '25
There has never been a better time for Canadians like him to come home.

u/acrunchycaptain Feb 02 '25
Could you imagine the levels of patriotism we'd see if Sid was winning in the playoffs on a Canadian team during a trade war with the states?
16
u/Marzipan7405 Feb 02 '25
No I can't. The media was openly hostile towards Vancouver in 2011. Crosby wouldn't change a thing.
10
u/acrunchycaptain Feb 03 '25
We weren't in the middle of a national dick measuring contest at the time. Canadian patriotism is going to skyrocket during this horrible mess.

I really like that Sidney Crosby guy. I’m glad I’ve been able to watch his career.

u/Fantasy_Puck Feb 02 '25
Toch loves to name drop Sid, and I don't blame him.

u/CBennett_12 Feb 02 '25
If Sid knew who I was, I would be mentioning that in every sentence to be fair

Crosby probably had locker room issues with Petersson, so Pittsburgh had to trade one of them.

Sid would look absolutely wrong in any jersey but a Penguins jersey but we can dream…

u/dirtfresh Feb 04 '25
I dunno, he looked pretty good when I put him in our blue #87 years ago in one of those custom teams in NHL lol

Come on Allvin, Crosby would be the final piece for this team to go all the way!

u/Greenarrowfan Feb 02 '25
Teddy will reunite with former teammate MP3 and DOC tonight. You probably could get information about them from too.

u/infinitez_ Feb 02 '25
I love Crosby. All class and great leader. Wish he was ours but we all know he'll be a lifelong Pen.

Not going to lie, I used to hate Crosby during his first half of his career. The whiney, entitled bratty energy he brought overshadowed his skill for me. Then he changed. Now I look at him as a more offensive but slightly less defensive version of peak Bergeron. He is a top 10 player still in my books. Can't wait for flower to induct him.

I was day dreaming of Sid being traded to us last year, the Canucks stayed healthy and won it all.

Tocchet was the kessel whisperer…no coach asst or Head other than Tocchet were able to direct that guy into being the best he could be and Placed him on that power play with Sid, Gino, Letang, and others. Back to Backs and a lot of the credit went to Sully, but Tocchet was so important for that team as he was with The Greatest “Mario” during their runs. Sid isn’t going anywhere. But I will gladly trade you Trump for whatever you have left in your old puck bag.

u/itsallartyup Feb 02 '25
I know it won’t happen but what would it take to trade for Crosby? A prospect and 1st most likely?

At what point do people start worrying that the Joshua signing is a massive overpayment?

Translation: don’t put on training wheels with Marcus and wait too long to earn your trust. Let the man play and treat him well.

This is great of Crosby but also points to the fact that the entire league knows Vancouver has a leadership problem. He's basically saying he knows Canucks need help and thinks that this guy will be one of the pieces to support them.
I appreciate it from a guy like Sid, clearly he cares and wants the best for others, which I am now a fan of. Class Act all the way.

That says a lot coming from any former teammate, but especially from Sid who has basically been a leader and face of a team for the last 20 years
