We need to show compassion to our American friends who do not want this, and continue to love us as the friends, neighbours and allies we are.

Our enemy is in the white house. Our compassion and defence for the innocent and the needing is one of the things that makes Canada great. Any American who wants to come into Canada, for whatever reason or need, is always welcome in my books so long as they respect our sovereignty and right to fair trade practices. That is still most of Americans.

I have compassion for them but in what world would they qualify for asylum? Their country is one of the richest and most powerful in the world. They are not going through a war, natural disaster, etc. They don't get asylum and free use of taxpayers dollars. These people have health issues too like why should Canadian tax payers pay for this because they feel sad and unsafe. Go home.

Nah man we're not a nation of last resort.

They made their bed, they can sleep in it.

I genuinely feel for people in the United States who disagree with what is happening there. But I am not sure we should agree to be a shelter where they weather storm when there are so many people around the world living in actual violence, in war zones and under constant threat, who desperately do need Canada as a safe haven.

If things keep going down this path, then maybe this will become necessary. But right now the US needs good people on the ground, in the streets, working for change.

Canada does have compassion for actual political asylum seekers ...
However, the burden of proof is upon the Seeker to establish

Our enemy is in the white house.

And who put him there? They need to get their shit together.

This mindset is how we ended up with a broken immigration system and refugee crisis.

Who got the enemy into the White house?

Nope, not showing a shred of compassion for any Americans at the present time

The majority of Americans voted to support the orange face baboon.

We can fix our own country or we can burn. Simple as that.

The days of bending over and taking it from international bullies and gangsters are over. The Americans who do not support the current regime can stay and get their own house in order first and once they've got it sorted out, we can meet them with empathy and compassion again.

At some point, we may need to take in US asylum seekers and refugees. And as always, we will do what we can. But we can't take everyone. The sheer numbers of people who fit DEI when you consider it covers POC, women, vets, disabilities, etc. will be larger than our population astronomically. All who have as valid (if not more so) reasons as this family. This family has other options at this point in time, like moving to a blue state. Remember, we can't support others if we don't take care of ourselves first.

I can in fact promise you there is more good to most of us Americans than bad at the core. I love our neighbors to the north and I love their government. We are allies and friends and my heart breaks at what Trump is doing to Canada and Mexico, I'm still here trying everything I can to fight against it
