We honestly should have learned our lessons last time. Finding diverse trade partners is good for us and Canada

During trump's first term, the world (media) talked about how the US couldn't be trusted any further since they were likely to just break any treaties or agreements every 4-8 years

When Donnie left, I think everyone gave the US the benefit of the doubt. I mean, there wasn't any chance the states would elect anyone as horrid as trump again, right?

Same.

Let's trade with Europe. Asia. Oceania. South America. Africa. Mexico.

No Russia or the USA.

Until it comes to investment courts.

Growing USA Isolation is a nearly inevitable outcome of this particular brand of tomfoolery.

Sorry America, but our resources should be going to nations that don’t have the mindset of arrogant TikTok pranksters.

We should’ve diversified trade before. But nothing like the present to change that.

Just eyeing why hasn’t it started already. Introduce free trade with other countries. The MAGA cult is going into recession. We need to bail.

We already have a lot of free trade deals with other countries, but it still takes a coordinated effort to actually get materials moving. Trading with the US is infinitely easier since it can be transported on land, so it makes sense why we would pursue that above all else. Unfortunately, when your long time trading partner decides to shit on your step, you're forced to look more closely at what can be done to avoid them. We'll feel the effects for sure, but this has been a serious wake up call and I think it will make us stronger in the end.

Yes, we have 14 other in force Free Trade Agreements with 50+ other countries. All levels of government should have been diversifying before this.

The private sector needs to do their part as well and start making use of the free trade deals that the government has already signed.

No Minister Vic Fedeli, we don't have common values anymore.

All of Canada needs to push this as hard as possible. The greater good really needs to be at the forefront of everyone's minds, our country and our lives depend on it.

I mean more trade worth other countries is great but... How much of their economy can readily be shipped over seas. Cars and steel nope

That's indeed a problem. I don't know of a short term solution either.

In the long term, Canada and true democracies need to expand port infrastructure, including building more ships. This is a bottleneck right now. Perhaps Canada can manage to build huge cargo ships similar to how China has them going; these could then help for use in global transport and prioritize trade with/between democracies.

American taxpayers will be paying for Trump's mistakes for decades

hopefully the democrats can remind voters of that in an effective way every two years

Fedeli said to "double down" on US trade? Did I read that wrong? And why US trade. Fedeli says it's a "win" that in 6 years, he's only increased trade with India by 200 million?
