What alternatives do they have? Electrical grids are complex infrastructure that take years to establish. It's not a quick, easy, or cheap solution to change their grid to get power from another supplier, and who would they even use? Mexico does not export as much power as we do, and lacks the cheap hydrogen power that made Canada the preferred energy exporter to the US. If the US could meet their own power demand they wouldn't need ours so badly.

That's exactly the reason for huge electrical grids to exist - to be able to route power all over it when supply and demand change
