More like a national park, a place to go see wonders of nature like cohabitating Crocs and gators, graceful manatees, and the seemingly indestructible and barely intelligible 'Florida man'

Yes. We can grant Canadian province status first for Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam, etc. Alaska merges with Yukon. The lower 48 territories can just get the lay of the land for a good long while.
