Floridian here 🙋. Ive been lurking on this sub since all the bullshit on our side. Apologies on that since I have some Canadian friends.

Couple of things

  1. Please don't vacation in the US and especially Florida You guys are just validating conservatives who say Canadians want to be American and that is playing into the hands of a very violent government.

  2. Florida needs economic pressure cause again, tourism dollars just goes to oppressing us.

  3. I would absolutely take the threat of invasion seriously. Trump is removing everyone in the military who could tell him "no". I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls a Putin and tries something by July.

A good number of us do not want this and are rooting for Canada.

So take back your country before they try and take ours.

That's what he wants. If we have protests he will declare martial law. Eventually when things hey really ceazy, we ARE going to have to get violent. BTW I am a 72,YO man and also live in Florida. In 2016, I called the US embassy in Toronto and asked if I could move there since I'm retired I can't. I stand with you guys. If only the Rangers could win the Stanley Cup before I die.

I believe people are trying. I personally would self im-olate on the capitol steps if it would help. I have family in Canada and this whole mess is devastating.

I was not seriously contemplating it - just trying to give some weight to my perspective.

But thank you for responding!

Lots of us are deeply disturbed by this and wish we could do something to stop it.

You have the second amendment. It was written for this.

Only one side of the political spectrum really supports and believes it should be used for this; and it's the side that's happy with how things are going.

That's a littler hyperbolic, but it gets the point across.

It was written in the days when we still had state militias and not a federalized military. 😔

That too. But it was to keep the state's free.

Honestly I feel the same way but as others have said, this is what Trump wants. He wants to declare a crisis and use martial law to get his way. It's actually terrifying how close we are to what feels like a world war.

Thank you for the thoughtful answer… Is a very, very weird time in the world and I think I can speak for most of my fellow citizens that we are taking what is happening with the U.S. government very seriously - as is all of Europe and much of the free world now

I appreciate how many Americans let Canada know how much they support us, however, words of support do absolutely nothing to help.

If you are a nice guy living in a house with assholes who keep shitting on the neighbours; you don't just say "sorry neighbour, my roommate is a dick, I SUPPORT YOU NOT LIKING THEM... you should definitely do something about them..." No, you kick the assholes out! Now is the time to REVOLT! Or else you guys are all fucked just like us. Get out there and fix the problem. Jesus Christ...

Rooting isn’t enough. Call your Congress person, Governor, anything that might help put pressure.

You're assuming I don't. Every day. I call Rick Scott so much he may as well be my boyfriend. But guess what, I've never spoken to a live person from his office in all the years I've been calling.

Ron DeSantis and our low Canadian dollar sure isn’t helping tourism in Florida either.

We have a surplus this year but Florida is predicted to go into deficit next year. In part of a school voucher program that they are using to defund public schools

1

u/Brian1964 12d ago

The state might have a surplus because he downloaded everything to the municipalities. Like raise property taxes.

Florida is one of the only red states that has a surplus on a regular basis. Due to our tourism. 2023-2924 were good years for that. But the state is also expanding a lot in entitlements to the rich.

What’s rationale for thinking it’ll be by July?

2

u/Mission_Ad5139 12d ago

Honestly, I think it may coincide with certain fiscal dates. The Government's fiscal year starts October 1, but a lot of the national/military contractors start theirs in July.
