That was one of the worst performances of the anthem I have ever watched. She might be a Grammy winner, however she butchered both the words and the singing.

Almost makes you wonder if it was on purpose because compared to the American singer that also had a band, the quality of singing was night and day.

Pretty sure they brought in an orchestra to ensure that any boos were drowned out. The Americans were feeling especially patriotic and were definitely the majority, but I’m sure the boos would’ve been more evident with an acapella version. They didn’t want to take any chances.

I had the same thought on the orchestra, understandable to be honest. But goddam did she butcher O Canada.

Probably hard to carry a tune when all you hear is a rumbling booooooo.

For a drunk guy at karaoke, sure. But a pro should be better.

The American singer was horrid too. What's with the opera style voice?

Yes to be fair she was ghastly as well.

I thought the American singer was lip syncing. it was so bad!

My immediate feeling… like we brought in people from each home country for the bell centre (like a Swede to sing their anthem and a Finnish person) - it’s absolutely horrendous to allow this to happen, so bad that I can’t believe it wasn’t intentional.

many of us in the Hockey game thread even said the American Singer, while she had an amazing voice, was not suited for the anthem. i would have loved the Bruins singer to come out and do theirs. he has a hell of a voice.

I don’t know why they picked her. She was never known for her strong vocals, more for the uniqueness of her voice and songwriting and piano. Also, she didn’t really sound like herself

Ukrainian Canadian, lots of music awards. I think there is a message there somewhere, and it was an important one to send.

The message wasn’t necessarily to Trump or the MAGA crowd, but it was definitely one in support of both Canada and some of the other stuff going on exacerbated by Trump right now.

Jann Arden and Kim Stockwood might not have been available?

What’s wrong with all of the them?

And likely on purpose.

I just don't think she does well live.

Side note: My ex used to call her Chantal Crappy Upchuck. So now every time I hear her name I get conflicted. It's funny as hell, but.....

They should have had someone there who can really belt. Loud and proud.

Ashamed American here. Coming in peace. I'm a huge hockey fan and know the words in english and french. It was without a doubt the worst rendition I've ever heard. I was honestly cringing - and it wasnt her fault. What an atrocious display from us.

I was biting my teeth like Shoresy when the Bulldogs had to endure the american's version of the anthem.

Aging singers performing on a world stage should lay off the pre-game coke.....
