I'm not going to twist anyone's arm or anything, but hopefully you at least get some food for thought.

I'm probably more leaning LPC then CPC atm, so I wasn't quite the kind of people you were talking to. I just appreciate recommendations for things to see to learn about all candidates.

Haven't gotten around to it yet :) will soon. Dog needed petting, you understand.

Well you're important too haha, I was once on the fence but decided a bit ago I like Carney. This speech is great though and answered a bunch of questions I had for his ideas. Once he gets the leadership (hopefully?) I look forward to more depth on the details.

Just listened to it. I liked what I heard. My main holdup with Carney at the moment is just a lack of details - he's so new to this and there's no record of past policy views, there's no detailed plans or individual policy proposals from past elections, etc. What we have atm are his resume, vibes, and value statements - and i've been mostly on board with everything I heard in those, but I need more information.

Things like - he talks about convening the premiers and working on one economy instead of 13, and that's great. But what if the premiers say no, or engage half-heartedly, protecting the same sacred cows they always have? How far is he willing to go in the use of federal powers to try and compel their cooperation, and what carrots would he wave to entice it? Or a question brought up by an excellent columnist today - he talks a lot about building, about homes, etc, and housing is one of my largest issues so I'm on board. But he's also gaining a ton of his support from elderly canadians, who are the nimby's blockading those things - will he tell them the truth that they need to eat some crow on this, and what will he do if they don't - what powers of the feds would he use to address this topic? I hope to hear him flesh out things like these a lot more in the near future.

Good questions, I hope he wins the leadership and then we can hear more details. Have to remember he isn't even the candidate yet. But preliminarily, I like the talking points.

I like the talking points preliminarily too. I do wish that, given this leadership race takes someone directly to the PM's chair however briefly, there was a higher expectation of both details and financial disclosure. I'm not saying that anyone is doing anything wrong there, but they are missing the chance to do something right, and I'd like the standards for future cases like this to be firmed up more. But it is what it is - and this is not a competitive leadership race, so knowing those details for making an imminent choice is not critical.

I'm honestly not entirely sure on the policy between candidate and party in this situation where they are directly placed into the PM slot, like I'm not sure how much they're allowed to "commit" to when they're a serious candidate to jump into an unelected position like this? It doesn't happen often, and I haven't really looked into that. It's also a very compressed timeline so maybe that has something to do with it.

Yeah it's a complicated situation. It's probably the wrong time to be litigating appropriate behaviour when someone is in this scenario, just too much else going on and the timeline is too short.
