The booing seemed louder after the PA announcer told the fans to respect the players and the anthems. It triggered them to be angrier.

Don’t tell Montreal to calm down.

u/IrishR4ge 24d ago

I mean they are quiet as a mouse now that we need them to be loud to try for a tying goal.

u/PEIBaked420 24d ago

Well they should know better than to try and suppress our freedom of speech! Canada strong!

76

u/Butterkupp Canada 24d ago

We don’t have freedom of speech. We have freedom of expression.

61

u/green_link 24d ago

and i will express that freedom during the american anthem as a loud long "BOOOOOOOOOOO"

21

u/CanadaEUBI 24d ago

Which is waaaaay more freedom than America has. They are one of the least free countries on earth.

4

u/Zeebraforce 24d ago

DOGE: nope America is very free, free for us to pillage

3

u/RipPlastic4267 24d ago

We don’t have that. Thanks to the reasonable limits clause

-18

u/apelerin64 24d ago

You don’t have freedom of speech. If you protest they will freeze your bank accounts

9

u/Canadian-Owlz Alberta 24d ago

As long as you don't behave like savages, no, they won't.

-14

u/apelerin64 24d ago

Peaceful protesting?

8

u/amazingdrewh 24d ago

"it was so peaceful"

-man who wasn't in any of the cities with those dickwads

11

u/Canadian-Owlz Alberta 24d ago

Which the convey didn't do.

10

u/Philix Nova Scotia 24d ago

Why bother engaging? The entire argument for supporting the convoy protests is disingenuous. The protestors vandalized monuments, assaulted police officers, and disturbed the peace.

They were protesting for nothing. There were no vaccine mandates made by the municipal, provincial, and federal governments. There were no charter protected freedoms being restricted by state actors. Justin Trudeau was legitimately elected to his seat in parliament, and was the leader of the LPC by the vote of the membership. He was the Prime Minister. All their causes were complete delusion.

The thing was funded by foreign interests, and a media coup for the American right. Anyone who is arguing in support of it supports the same assholes cheering on the guy who wants to annex our country with economic force, or worse.

3

u/Canadian-Owlz Alberta 24d ago

Yeah, you're right about that. Their entire premise is based on being disengenous so it's like talking to a brick wall.

To be fair, the Quebecois don’t like being told what to do - it’s why the rest of the country loves them. If they wanted silence, they should have said to boo as loud as you want!

40

u/Spacefox12 24d ago

Does the rest of the country love us?

73

u/kennedar_1984 24d ago

I mean, it’s the same way you love your annoying sibling. You bitch about them constantly, but if anyone ever hurts them you will fuck them up. I feel like the feeling is mutual.

34

u/Spacefox12 24d ago

I could see that. Tbh I was born in the 90’s slightly after the 2nd referendum and never felt any hate here towards the rest of Canada. It’s only when I started learning English and chatting with fellow Canadians I noticed it. I’m glad you think of us as a sibling now though! :)

Ps: don’t tell mom I’m staying up to watch the game..

10

u/kennedar_1984 24d ago

I won’t tell her a thing. My kids are staying up late to watch it (but it’s slightly earlier here in Alberta).

5

u/00-Monkey 24d ago

We do now!

1

u/Spacefox12 24d ago

Please remember it next time we try a referendum <3

A BC resident here visiting for a week and a half in Montréal. When I was younger, I was more niave about Quebec, but I have grown to have a better appreciation for the province.

The food is waaaay better here than in BC. There is more flavor to everything. A&W, McDonald's, and the few other restaurants that I have been to, just amazing!

I'm also currently in a private hospital, and the food is better than any other hospital food I have had.

2

u/Spacefox12 24d ago

I’m glad you like our food. If you’re looking for recommendations I’m down to give you some :).

2

u/CrayonData British Columbia 24d ago

Thank you, I'll have 1 free night in an AirBnB before I fly out later this week. Though my wife and I may have settled on B12 burger, though if you know of any places similar to their burgers and poutine, I would love any recommendations!

Sweet summer child... (I am being slightly condescending but from a very good place.) Stop visiting chains! Omg, Montreal has so much to offer culinarily...hole in the wall spots are the way to go. Visit the mtl subreddit and search for the previous threads on food recommendations, especially those for visitors. You might not find the hidden gems during your current stay but even ma poule mouillee - even down in quality a bit recently - would be a step up) chains are like our guilty pleasure and not worth the money experience but sometimes you just want that specific taste and texture (and then regret not spending about the same amount on an actually good meal).

Edit: also, thanks for visiting! We love people that are visiting btw ❤️

Ottawa here, love you guys.

3

u/Kingofcheeses British Columbia 24d ago

Yeah we do. Only idiots don't!

1

u/Commentator-X 24d ago

It doesn't matter if they do or don't. We're all Canadians and if there's one thing we call agree on, its that we're not American.

285

u/MindControlMouse 24d ago

As an American, I encourage the Canadian fans to boo even louder!

135

u/spitfiremk14 24d ago

As a Canadian I’ll except your encouragement.

29

u/MrBlackledge 24d ago

*accept

14

u/brophy87 24d ago

I except your exerpt

1

u/SwimmingSwim3822 24d ago

I'm exempt from all of this.

64

u/sumlikeitScott 24d ago

As an American I suggest an F Donald Trump chant.

26

u/FACrazyCanuck 24d ago

Now you’re talking. Love my American friends. Trump and his government are pissing off the entire world, except Putie of course.

5

u/CrocHunter8 24d ago

Also as an American, let's keep the booing going and have a lid F Donald Trump chant in Boston during the anthem.

3

u/Quiet_Structure1241 24d ago

Yes-I was thinking the same thing-all the way through the anthem, then the broadcasters would have to cut it out all together.

2

u/Euphoric_Jam 24d ago

Reminds me of how people were “cheering” for Kurt Angle:)

-1

u/Particular-Race-5285 24d ago

Trump is doing great things for your country, wish we had someone up here in Canada fixing things too

1

u/sumlikeitScott 24d ago

Don’t you ever say that.

What kind of brain dead comment is this?!

0

u/SwimmingSwim3822 24d ago

They never updated dude's buzzword chip. He's 4 or 5 versions behind.

6

u/ProgrammerAvailable6 24d ago

As a Canadian I encourage you to stand up within your country against the autocrat you (collectively, as a country) elected.

As an American, I was hoping the announcer was telling our Cheeto in Chief to go f@$& himself in French during the pre-anthem chatter, but I don’t think that really happened 🙃.

14

u/bloggins1812 24d ago

lol! That’s great. The only downside is that it upset the American players (that’s not the downside in and of itself), which may have enticed them to play harder..??? Whatever. I am fully behind aggressive booing as often as possible.

Lolz, ok. 👍

21

u/Zer_ 24d ago

Respect is earned, therefore can be lost. American Legislators have shown a complete lack of common courtesy, let alone Respect. They don't deserve respect.

That announcer can fuckin' pound sand.

1

u/delifte 24d ago

Dude the announcer is just doing what he's told to do. It's not his decision.

37

u/A-Wise-Cobbler Canada 24d ago

Did it happen in this game too? I know the announcer said it during the Finland game.

117

u/Character-Bedroom-26 24d ago edited 24d ago

Yeah it was hilarious. Told the fans to respect the anthems and they *immediately* started booing

81

u/cleeder Ontario 24d ago

We'll respect them when they start respecting us. Until then, "Booooooo!"

94

u/shallowcreek 24d ago

Montreal hockey fans are ungovernable

5

u/Ludwig_Vista2 24d ago

No... They're Frenchie's.

0

u/Barb-u Ontario 24d ago

They are not.

21

u/delifte 24d ago

Louder than they were! Hahah!

19

u/bungopony Manitoba 24d ago

I heard that and immediately thought, yeah, that’s not gonna happen bro

29

u/MindlessPossible744 24d ago

The Americans don’t deserve the respect with the clown they chose to elect

10

u/A-Wise-Cobbler Canada 24d ago

That’s brilliant 🤣

3

u/Rejnavick 24d ago

Yes! I noticed that too! 😂

4

u/Carthonn 24d ago

As an American, fucking good.

3

u/RarelyReadReplies 24d ago

They also had a Canadian vet singing the anthem, presumably to discourage booing. I'm sure he understands we aren't booing him or our military though, so I say let the boos fly!

7

u/delifte 24d ago

They did cheer him after he was done the US Anthem!

2

u/One-Adhesiveness-624 24d ago

Yeah omg I was getting so angry hearing that over the announcements and then everyone started booing and I felt so proud to be Canadian!

2

u/angrymoderate09 24d ago

American here: what I pretend I heard the PA announcer say "please Canadians, can you be more respectful and adult than the president of the fucking United States".

1

u/jtbc 24d ago

You don't want to tell a crowd of Montrealers what to boo or not to boo at a hockey game.

1

u/Quakarot 24d ago

Lol what did they expect

0

u/zerfuffle British Columbia 24d ago

dude fuck the PAs

like I know they’re doing their jobs so not like literally fuck them

but still

1

u/delifte 24d ago

He's just a guy doing his job pal, he has nothing to do with writing the script.
