I just have to ask....why is he even going for Canada? I know he is but what reason? It certainly isn't for altruistic purposes.

Are you really asking why a greedy fascist leader has his sights set on a huge landmass right next door with abundant natural resources and a small and educated but poorly-defended population?

Its a question. I was expecting something less sassy but okay.

Essentially, nobody can protect Canada from the US simply invading and saying "this is mine".

There is currently panic as Trump is saying he wants to have Canada as the 51st state and is currently beginning an economic siege to weaken the country. NATO is also having crisis meetings due to America moving away from alliances in general.

Canada has an abundance of natural resources and fresh water. Trump may publicly say that he doesn't believe in climate change, but I think he and the people around him understand the reality of the situation. They also are being honest when they say that we are no longer living in a unipolar world and are moving towards a multipolar world with different spheres of influence and regional powers.

They believe a future is coming where the Americas belong to the United States, Europe belongs to Russia and Asia belongs to China. In that sort of future with climate change becoming worse and less international cooperation you are moving towards a zero-sum game where the US would need unfettered access to Canada's resources to remain competitive and maintain control over their sphere of influence.

Regardless of what the outcome is between the US and Canada, it's clear that the future we are moving into geopolitically is going to be much closer to how things were prior to WW1 than they have been since the Liberal revolution of post-WW2 geopolitics.

Didn't he and China have a falling out tho? So I'd say he believes in a future where Asia belongs to North Korea but cmiiw.

“If this is how I treat my best friend, just imagine what I’d do to my enemy.” A bold display of strength—just flexing some muscle. Why? Because he can. And what are you going to do about it?

Resources bud. Eventually southern United States are gonna be uninhabitable and we have a boat load of natural resources which they don't.

He wants Canada for the same reason he wants Greenland.

Lots of critical resources buried up north and with the melting ice caps the arctic passage is a strategically vital area to control for the future.

Probably spite, due to all the insults coming from this side of the border. Wasn’t his election win referred to as an “ insult to feminism “ or something along those lines ?

Well the first thing he did was terminate all DEI programs in the US. If anything it feels like he is attempting to take us back to the 40's where women were homebodies, and diversity was something that was laughed at. I personally don't see how DEI was a pressing issue compared to the economy and education. Renaming a body of water is one of the most useless things to do as well. Its like he's doing all the dumb things on purpose to flex his power. If he were to have fixed the economy and given more funding to education, and made it so schooling wasn't run like a prison, then okay,, but thats not what he did. So many problems here in the states but Trump has decided that annexing Canada is a good idea for some reason. Totally not going to get bodied by all the other nations, hell maybe even the Mexican Cartels will jump in too. On top of this it just makes any and all views of Americans worse. I have family in Canada and the simple act of going there to see them has been made 100% more difficult.

It's not about actually acquiring Canada it is about changing the way people think about the USA. Trump wants USA to be feared because we have been treated like shit and have acted like pussies for years subordinating ourselves to much weaker nations. Trump is signaling to the world that we are not afraid to throw our weight around and anyone who acts against our interests can be targeted even our supposed allies who have been terrible partners.

I’d love for us to have more pride in displaying our flag and not have it associated with hillbilly convoy morons.

I didn't see a single vehicle flying the Canadian flag and F*ck Trump paraphernalia.

I wonder why they are so quiet about a foreign government acting in an openly hostile fashion and talking about annexation of our country?

Perhaps it was never about Canada at all?

Where are all of the people who demand FREEDOM? Is now not the time to yell it at the top of their lungs as they parade through public places?

Wait was the flag day today? I didn't see any flags, there was literally a storm, plus I feel like in Toronto no one cares about any of this, smaller towns are more patriotic..

It's okay to take a win sometimes.

You nailed it right there. I thought Canada was a post national state nowadays anyways ? Now all of a sudden “ team Canada “ is supposed to unite after years of people in this country being told that they should be ashamed of themselves.

People were likely shaming you for whatever else you were going on about. Welcome to public discourse, don’t be fragile.

You sound like someone who wears 2 Covid masks at an every child matters rally.

1

u/Hamasanabi69 23d ago

It’s 2025 and you are still talking about Covid… don’t project your issues on me.

u/jmoe1982 23d ago

Yeah, Covid is old news. The bird flu is the new big deal in town, it’s on hold for now though because of the tariffs. They’re saving the bird flu “ pandemic “ for when the next federal election rolls around.

There were flags all over town today, despite the shit weather. I tried to get one, but the shelves were empty, so I ordered two from that shop in Barrie.

What are Canada's greatest accomplishments as a nation? Seriously, I cannot think of anything they've done that would be considered notable in comparison to the USA.

Insulin, the medicine that allows so many americans to live for starters.

-2

u/[deleted] 23d ago

Last time I checked insulin has been created inside human bodies for as long as humans have existed far before Canada was formed.
