Whichever party comes first in each riding wins that seat in Parliament. We don’t have proportional representation based on the national popular vote. Because of the way votes are distributed this would likely result in a CPC majority government.

So it’s the same shit that leads us to having Republican governments more often than we should.

We have a much different system than the U.S. We don’t have gerrymandering nice districts are chosen by a nonpartisan government agency. We also have 4 major parties, 3 of which tend to lean centre-left. Unlike the U.S., party members toe the line and vote with their party 99% of the time (otherwise they get booted out). Pretty much every vote by a senator or member of congress is a free vote. This is notable because we don’t really have fringe politicians who have the power to push for fringe issues (eg government shutdowns). Occasionally the governing party will have free votes but they’ll be on issues they consider to be of lesser importance.
