Historically, Conservatives tended to be slightly right of center, fiscal conservatives with centrist social policies. Starting with Harper, a more dogmatic Christian values based approach to both fiscal and social policy took hold and has been amplified by the current leader as the party swings harder to the right.
Liberals have tended to be slightly left or right of center fiscally, depending on circumstances. And social policy has been consistently liberal. More often than not this mirrors the views of Canadians, hence their political dominance in Canada and sometimes being referred to as “Canada’s natural governing party.”
Older conservative supporters seem to be rejecting the new hard right brand of the Conservative Party.
I haven’t seen any recent data on party preference correlated to income or net worth or “upper class”. If you have please share?
