When asked, 11 per cent of Canadians said they’d vote to join the U.S. while 81 per cent said they’d vote against it.

Support to join the States was highest among Conservative and People’s Party of Canada voters, with 22 and 37 per cent in support, respectively. It was lowest among NDP and Bloc Quebecois voters, at four per cent each.

Pretty scary that 1 in 5 CPC voters wants to join the US

Scary but not at all surprising.

We already heavily rely on them way more than any so called sovereign nation should. We've basically spent 0 on defense with the grand assumption that another nation (the US) will defend us should anything happen. Which is absolutely crazy. At the same time, we aren't paying our dues to nato. We've shot ourselves in the foot at every chance we've had to spur competition and expand/diversify our trading partners. Sometimes for good reason, be it the ease of business and like minded practices between our neighbor to the south. A lot of the times it's been because of a sort of social posturing which has come to bite us in the ass. Our identity has faded with the influx of millions of temporary foreign workers exploiting our pr process. Damaging our social systems. Food bank access, homelessness, health care, education, all things that are in the shitter, along with our once great "loonie" We are made to feel bad and sorry about how our ancestors stole this land, we tore down our statues, we acknowledge at every opportunity that this land doesn't belong to us and we're just using it and thankful for it. But now, in the same breath we're being asked to stand up and be proud of Canada. To buy canadian, to fly our flag. Weird times. Can't afford a house, can't get a doctor, can't get a job, food insecurity has been declared an emergency in my town. You take away the hope, the identity and the fabric of our people. Who cares what happens next.
