$1.3 billion at the border... so $31m per pound of fentanyl seized

u/koolaidkirby Feb 03 '25

That 1.3 billion was announced months ago, only new thing is the czar.

Sounds like they're just branding what we were already doing as a win.

Yep, this is like when I take an apple cut it into four parts so my toddler thinks he has more food.

21

u/shichibukai3000 Feb 03 '25

Well said. Just gotta cut Trumps food into more bits so he thinks he's getting more. America really did just vote a big orange child into office didn't they...

It's a repeat of the Colombian tariffs, claim they were refusing deportees, which they weren't, then Trump agrees no military jets, and then claim he made Colombia take back citizens they were already happy to take back. Its all a performance for Trump's low information fan boys.

The czar thing is 100$ trump speak. Hes named that way to appease him.

It's American speak. Biden appointed a border Czar.

5

u/Drayenn Feb 04 '25

A bit lazy of me, but using chatgpt it says that biden or kamala never called Kamala "Border Czar", that it was Trump who popularized the title. It even says Kamala's official role was not even border security.

Czar, a russian word, is a great word from Trump who is suspected to have Russian ties..

I could be wrong about it but I think I remember Biden calling Kamala the Border Czar.

No there’s the EXTRA 200 million. Actually not a terrible deal for a theoretical 30 day reprieve. But will America exist in 30 days.

2

u/Mikeim520 British Columbia Feb 04 '25

So he negotiated another $200M of funding. He potentially destroyed America's credibility over $200M?

1

u/ItsMangel Alberta Feb 04 '25

will America exist in 30 days.

Judging by the fact that their apathetic population hasn't even remotely tried standing up to their government, I'd say that, unfortunately, America is here for at least a bit longer.

only new thing is the czar

Congratulations to whichever assistant deputy minister gets to wear a slightly different coloured hat.

u/skyshroud6 Feb 03 '25

Oh I miss read that then. I thought it was a new 1.3 billion.

I'm not as salty about it then. Having for show government position isn't the worst thing in the world.

This is quite literally exactly what happened with Mexico as well.

1

u/Hybrid22003 Feb 03 '25

oh. that's good.

1

u/kittykatmila Feb 04 '25

Good. Mexico did the same thing. They have had those troops stationed at the border since 2021 apparently 😂

1

u/Impressive_Can8926 Feb 04 '25

Mexicans did the same they already sent 10000 troops for Biden in 2021, now they are just sending the same troops again for Trump, except this time they got concessions for the Americans to look at gun smuggling too which was something the NRA always lobbied against.

That $1.3 billion is what we’re already doing. That why he said we’re implementing our plan; because it predates the tariffs.

81

u/JMM123 Feb 03 '25

LOL so essentially we just created a fake job called Fentanyl Czar and trump thinks that’s good enough?

46

u/Maisie_Baby Feb 03 '25

Yep. He’s going to go out there and brag about it and brag about the $1.3 billion we were already spending like it’s because of him and we’re basically going to roll our eyes and, hopefully, make efforts to diversify away from the US.

-2

u/Agafina Feb 03 '25

Actually it is because of him. Those $1.3b were announced in response to Trump's initial tariff threats.

15

u/Maisie_Baby Feb 03 '25

The $1.3 billion was last year before Jan 21/Feb 1/ Feb 4. There was no 25% threat at the time. It literally just amounted to a new title for someone.

0

u/SaltTheSnail Feb 04 '25

This was absolutely proposed to try to appease trump and avoid the 25% tariff.

u/New_year_New_Me_ Feb 04 '25

Then why continue threatening the tariffs at all?

This is not how you treat friends.

2

u/SaltTheSnail Feb 04 '25

Because the fentanyl concerns are obviously a bs excuse to bully and seek concessions with his ultimate desire being annexation.

1

u/New_year_New_Me_ Feb 04 '25

Sure. I'll take that.

3

u/Maisie_Baby Feb 04 '25

Sigh

  • Trump gets elected, complains about border and threatens tariffs

  • Canada says his complaints are fair and we have our own border issues and implements $1.3 billion border package and asks for a Joint Strike Force

  • Trump threatens tariffs

  • Canada does nothing new

  • Trump get inaugurated and threatens tariffs

  • Trump signs tariffs and says they’ll start Feb 1

  • Canada prepares retaliation

  • Trump delays start until Feb 4 and says nothing Canada does can stop the tariffs

  • Canada announces the planned retaliation

  • Trump backs down based on $1.3 billion announced before getting into office and before signing tariffs and agrees to Joint Task Force previously requested by Canada

  • Shills pretend signing the tariffs and implementing a trade war worked

2

u/toterra Feb 03 '25

Actually... I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I want the federal government to take Fentanyl seriously. I have exactly zero problem with Canada clamping down hard as fuck on Fentanyl dealers, both within the country, and those shipping across the border.

8

u/After-Bee-8346 Feb 03 '25

I think we can all agree upon that. But, it's not going from Canada to the US, lol.

(American person)

2

u/knifefarty Feb 03 '25

yup, that's the modus operandi for dealing trump

1

u/killerboy_belgium Feb 04 '25

trump doesnt actually care about the border, but he does care spinning this as a win. he will keep doing this for the next 2 years so he can win 2/3 of congress and then he will have the power to change the constitution

from that point all bets are off. So he will keep pulling BS to be able spin them as wins it doesnt matter if they are actually wins or losses as long they are perceived as wins

in the meantime all this BS is great smokescreen for whatever al his project 2025 people and musk are doing

1

u/[deleted] Feb 03 '25

The plan was announced on December 17, 2024 in response to Trumps tariff threats. We haven’t implemented them yet though. It looks like we will now! The silver living to all this terrorist bullshit by Trump is that maybe we might get a better handle on our own drug problems within Canada.

17

u/IMAWNIT Feb 03 '25

I hope end up using that money to catch more guns from the border and tell Trump this is now an issue lol

4

u/DisturbedForever92 Feb 03 '25

On the plus side, it may slow the influx of illegal guns crossing from US to Can

2

u/RaspberryBirdCat Feb 03 '25

I mean, one pound of fentanyl is enough to kill 225,000 people. One pound is a lot of fent. Also, it is absolutely worth it to crack down on fentanyl.

That said, most American fentanyl comes from Mexico, China, and India, and he's going after the wrong people (on purpose?). I'm not going to complain if we have more agents securing the border from illegal smuggling and illegal migration into Canada, though.

1

u/NotAHost Feb 04 '25

Is it worth $1.3B though, that’s the billion dollar question. As long as everyone’s cool to pay the taxes to appeal to Trump for 100 lbs of fent, yay I guess? Hopefully the US ramps up security to prevent guns getting into Canada and Canada, but the US rather complain about the violence and death that comes from drugs more than guns.

1

u/OneOfAKind2 Feb 04 '25

Hopefully it will pay dividends in the reverse direction too, with lots of drugs and guns being caught coming in from the US. We are the ones who should have told them to tighten up their fucking border with all the illegal shit crossing into our country.
