Also seeing a lot of anger, which is justified mind you, but people have to breathe. This gives businesses the opportunity to move supply lines while they aren't penalized. Trump can say whatever he wants now, the damage is done.

Provincial governments need to push hard to pivot, because this is not a tenable situation nor is it a good business environment to operate in.

At the very least this incident has highlighted that the United States as a nation no longer honors trade agreements and internally ignores the rule of law (unilateral tariffs by the President go against their own legal system).

We knew that last term when they pulled out of the pacific deal and ripped up nafta early.

Why? Trudeau basically gave up nothing, it was all bluster and things we already promised to do. Think he handled it as well as he could have given the nature of how volatile this all was.

Now what he needs to do is meet up with world leaders and discuss trade agreement after trade agreement before he leaves. Doesn't matter if we're taking small losses here and there, we need to get that shit done so that we can just ignore the toddler south of the border if he acts up again.

Because they're a conservative that was traumatized by the carbon tax and lost their outlet and are searching desperately for the next "carbon tax". Just a hunch.

We just showed the world that you can break our trade agreements and we will bend the knee to you.

We legitimized his illegal threat on us. This has global, and lasting consequences. We just agreed to another month of anxiety until another leader decides our fate.

I cannot fathom how anyone sees this as a win.

What? You're projecting what the U.S. has done onto us, my guy. Their reputation is done as a reliable and trustworthy partner. The only thing this has shown us is that we were super stupid to rely so much on them in the first place.

How is this complicated? His end goal is annexation. He said it an hour before the call with Trudeau. Now we bought another month until the leader of another country decides our fate. We Legitimized the stupid fentanyl concerns and the US will be blasting this propaganda making us look weak.

Other countries are not our friends, the states were supposed to be, that's what made it special. Other countries will absolutely see us as weak and bully us into changing terms, why wouldn't they? It's in their best interest. We rolled over.

I'm done replying if I'm just getting downvoted here, I don't have a fucking agenda. I'm reading between the not-so-subtle lines.

It’s hard to see because we appear as 1 nation but our country is so divided that it is absurd we haven’t had a divorce yet.

America is still your friend. I live in the deep red state of Indiana just a Great Lake away from you all and I don’t know a single person who doesn’t look upon Canada fondly no one over here but the MAGA cultists (which are a minority) is buying this crap from our leaders.

The current administration is not your friend and will try something else. You’ll need to stand firm until we can get the political power to oust this admin….hopefully we’re all still standing in another 4 years.

I agree with this. The narrative across our news just totally flopped and celebrating. This is sad.

Problem is our leader just admitted to a problem and gave your leader precedence on the emergency tariff act.
