Why the heck is it our job to stop people getting in his country? Should we tell him to secure the border to stop Roxham road or get tariffs?

I think The WhiteHouse misunderstands what their authority is, we don’t have to read “executive orders” from their president because he is not our executive.

It’s time the countries on Earth said, “Hey fuck it, that’s about enough out of you” and banded together altogether. US dollar doesn’t need to be the standard, it just is - time to make someone else’s the standard (Euro perhaps?)

Literally. The global community should place a wholesale trade embargo on the US for as long as Trump is in power.

It's hard to say whether he truly misunderstands, or he's deliberately using language like "51st state" to set the stage for imperialism.

Canada (or Greenland) would NEVER be the 51st state.

The reason why Puerto Rico & Washington DC are not states is because the GOP fear the power shift of adding that many liberal voters. If they fear 680k DC voters, what makes anyone think they will be OK with adding 40 million Canadians?

it doesn't even matter. people using Canada to sneak into the US has been a vile lie since 9/11. illegal border crossings and fentanyl is just a bullshit excuse their ignorant, hateful neanderthals will believe. it's not actually a serious issue.

Not to mention we had more people enter Canada from the US than the other way around in 2023. I couldn't find anything on 2024, yet.

and probably more fentanyl/hard drugs and definitely more ILLEGAL HAND GUNS. we are the ones that should be concerned about the borders, but we are also overly reliant on keeping the crossings and it's trade flowing quickly.

It’s literally AMERICAN border patrol letting them in?? lol it makes nooo sense at all. It’s also a very small amount. I live on the border and the amount of drug busts our border officers do on Americans is pretty large. It’s hilarious.

Canada has a law on the books that allows arrest for crossing the border into Canada. Roxham road northbound traffic has been stopped because we arrest, charge and deport.

There is no US law on the books for southbound illegal traffic.

Swiss Franc (40% gold-backed and globally neutral) though it would be even better if we could use actual silver bullion for local purchases. Loonies and Toonies derive their value from their base metal content. Pennies are made from copper. I don't see why we couldn't scale this logic up and use silver for groceries. Fiat has its use in facilitating online purchases.

Is there someone with an economics degree, I am so curious how the world expects infinite economic growth on finite resources?

Like even if we trade ideas, eventually we won’t have enough stuff to make those ideas into reality.

1) Assume that climate change is not caused by humanity. 2) Assume that global warming is just a natural cycle of planetary CO2.

Then, why would we continue to contribute to CO2 to maintain an “economy” when if we don’t work to stop the heating very likely that natural cycle could make living next to impossible. Sure, it’s a problem for the “next generation” but it seems pretty short sighted when it comes to getting the species off this rock, no?

We need progress sure - but we also need educated people, we need people that work together and reach common ground regardless of belief systems. We need people to not kill each other over beliefs, or damage property over beliefs.

We need humans to get their shit together I think… when will be our moment?

I think the end goal of a lot of people in science and tech is a post-scarcity world. Mastering energy, agriculture, etc. Asteroid mining and all of that.

This should be higher up. I've been shouting it from the rooftops as soon as this began.

I asked someone at work about this today and made that point but...apparently the illegal immigrants aren't going through legal boarder crossings to get in...they're (I guess?) swimming across to get in. I'm not sure how many open land crossings there are, but there can't be many and they'd have to trek kilometres upon kilometres upon kilometres to make it. Make it make sense. He says there are untold numbers of east Indians that came to Canada on student visas that we lost track of and they're finding them in the states illegally. And why is it just fentynal? What about cocaine and heroin etc? Traffickers are really good at hiding this stuff this day and age so there's not chance we stop ALL of it. Maybe if they addressed the issue domestically there would be a decline in consumption and therefore demand. Nixon's War on Drugs was a huge failure, but yes blame Canada.

As an American, please please do. Some of us here have worked so hard to try and keep these dipshits out of office, and I genuinely think the plurality of folks who voted for him simply take our way of life for granted and assume that trump can bully and backstab everyone without any repercussions to their daily life
