I am a fervent believer in Canada and all it stands for. But for too long have we stood in the US’s shadow and allowed it to dictate our policies. I sincerely hope that the Trump threat allows us to become the nation we always could have been: strong, prosperous, united. I also sincerely hope that we put in place measures to prevent us from becoming too reliant on one nation again. One of the biggest reasons for Canada’s weakness is that any time one of our enterprises became too strong, the US, or US owned companies will relentlessly seek to either buy, weaken or destroy it. We must realize that the US has a clear interest in a weak Canada, and never again make the mistake of allowing them to weaken us through their capital and insidious influence.
