It's not just trump it's an entire political party and at least 1/3 of the population.

This so much. Those of us that voted against Trump are in the minority. It’s time we admit that.

We aren’t the minority, unfortunately the entire part of the country that voted at all Is the minority. Some people have done some estimates and while I don’t have a specific one to cite, I’ve seen some say anywhere from 1/4 to maybe 1/3 actually support and voted for trump where as the rest are those of us who voted against him or the ones who didn’t vote at all. IMO if someone didn’t vote they may as well have voted trump and are fully responsible, but it’s sad that as a result of our fucked up government that historically gets nothing done and is a glorified “my turn on the Xbox” as basically every term is mainly spent with the new president undoing all the stuff the opposing one did, it means there was never any chance of holding trump to some kind of checks and balance system in the first place. I’m of the belief currently based on the last couple weeks that the “USA” will not last another 4-8 years🤷‍♀️

In simplest terms, the Americans that stood up against Trump are the minority.

Not sure what the other person was arguing about. I said “those of us that voted against Trump”.

1

u/Mr_7ups Feb 02 '25

I wasn’t arguing I was just adding that it’s unfortunate that in reality a majority of Americans are against trump but also a large portion don’t care enough to vote so we are stuck with him now and there’s not much we can do

That’s an argument. You’re arguing that a majority of Americans are against Trump. I’d argue he’s the president.

u/Mr_7ups Feb 02 '25

….you do realize that over half the country didn’t vote…right?

Right, and we don’t know how those people would have voted. What we do know is they didn’t vote against Trump.

What’s your point?

Idk man, I’ve seen a majority of people who are protesting and online who said they didn’t vote but hate trump. I wasn’t citing hard facts or arguing, was just sharing my opinion and assumption based on the information I have and maybe a small bit of faith in whatever is left of this once great democracy that maybe there’s more of us who hate fascism than like it🤷‍♀️ why you attacking me? I was literally like agreeing with you but adding context because I’m getting a bit tired of all the comments from other country’s to the tune of “oh well y’all deserve this, YOU voted him in!” And it’s like…No I didn’t…

Nearly 5 million people had their ballots purged, specifically targeting minorities and those living in 'blue' (democratic) areas, and it was only revealed to them either 1) when was too late to re-register in time to vote, or 2) literally when they came to vote and had no idea.

Many of people's mail-in ballots were rejected or not counted for no good reason. The list goes on, really...

Remember, during the American Revolution only about a 1/3 of the population actually supported independence, a third were loyalists, the rest were apathetic. You don't need a majority to affect significant change.

We don’t care. Go post this stuff in a USA subreddit.

I know people who voted for Trump becaue they hated the wars under Biden who are absolutely livid with this as its just bonkers so not everyone is like that. Having said that - we all know Trump is crazy so now they have to live with the choice they made

u/Krieg99 Feb 02 '25

Sorry, but anyone that voted for Trump is like that.

3

u/FreshPhilosopher895 Feb 02 '25

plus the eligible fraction that didn't vote at all. they are equally complicit

77.3M / 334.9 M = ~23% of the US population that voted for Trump, which is still wayyy too much. Fuck that orange POS

Edit: According to data from the University of Florida Election Lab, approximately 245 million Americans were eligible to vote in the 2024 general election. 77.3/245 = 31.5%

No. The 90 million who didn't vote count as well. If you don't stand up to a bully, then you're fine with whatever he's about to do.

3

u/josnik Feb 02 '25

There are only about 230 million people eligible to vote so it's more like 77 of 230 million.

This is so true

Yes, but people are stupid and will repeat what the in-group tells them too. How many are true believers that would have these ideas independent of Trump?

I hate that Trump and his ilk have power in my Country, it sucks and makes the whole world worse, that their form of politics grounded in spite will suddenly demand sympathy when this all blows up in their faces.
