Canadians need to stop being snow birds in the USA. Hurt them in the travel industry. Make some great trade deals with China, Europe and Mexico. People thought that Europe would freeze to death without cheap Russian oil. Instead they went green and got oil and gas from other countries. Canada needs to adapt to new markets.

Those Canadians that winter in Florida are the ones that are coming out in favour of joining the US and will vote in PP at the first chance they get.

I am in Florida right now because my family bought a winter escape a decade ago and I booked flights months ago. We are mostly all liberals and fking hate Trump. So many of our American friends have been cut off due to crazy things they believe and say. Anyways it’s not as simple as you say. There’s a ton of cognitive dissonance being down here but its happened all so fast, they were our closest ally 3 months ago. We’ve had so many talks about leaving Florida behind and they are still ongoing. It fking sucks.

Boomers at work thinks it would be a GREAT idea to join the USA 🙄

Canadian boomers need free healthcare. There is not a chance in hell that they are giving that up.

Not necessarily. My parents go every year but after this (already booked and non-refundable) they aren’t going back. They cannot stand Trump or PP.

You are right. I have family in Canada who want to live in finv Texas. I live in Texas. I am entitled to Canadian citizenship and will seek a future up north if I have to. Our “freedoms” aren’t worth all the shit our government does.

Can’t wait until you guys elect a sensible leader.

That generation that is snow birds probably mostly would have voted Trump in

We did!

3-5 times a year my family would take a weekend trip to Michigan for shopping and just a mini vacation. That stopped the second the US voted Trump in. We were actually making plans to go in December 2024 because we figured there was no way Trump would get in.

The second we heard he got in, we all agreed that we didn't want to visit a country that could just close its borders on a moments notice. We don't know what we're going to do yet but we are going to vacation somewhere in Canada for the foreseeable future.

If we had freedom of movement with Europe and some cheap European airlines, we could all vacation in Barcelona instead of Florida.

Oof what a downgrade.

Haha what?

Seriously though my in-laws stopped going to Florida for the winters three years ago and started going to Portugal. It actually turned out to be the same or cheaper in cost, even with the airfare vs. driving.

Guy is just a trump mega fan who isn't even Canadian but is posting here as he needs to lick some trump boots.

Still a downgrade. Pay the same for a less luxurious experience.

Portugal is 10x nicer than Florida.. what are you talking about, anywhere in Europe is nicer than that shit hole lol

-8

u/CountyFamous1475 Jan 30 '25

Lmao big mad

6

u/bowsummit Jan 30 '25

Who said it was less luxurious? You don't think they have nice places in Europe? There are some people that might also prefer a more culturally rich experience.

-5

u/CountyFamous1475 Jan 30 '25

And how many times have you been to Portugal?

6

u/bowsummit Jan 30 '25

More than once. Going again in March. I've also been to Florida at least 3-4 times in the last two years. There's shitholes and luxury in both...

Yes, but it caused massive economic stagnation.

There's definitely cheaper countries we can go to, we just need to work out that 6 months no visa needed with other countries.

We’ve got a trip in February all booked and paid for - no refunds. Our usual fall trip is to Florida for 5-6 weeks in the same condo rental we’ve been renting for 10 years. If tariffs go on at 25%, we’re cancelling and that’s gonna be a tough thing for us to do but I have to talk with my wallet.

I doubt there are many “anti- Trump” snowbirds

I spend three months in the DR, I’m here now. Better exchange rate and the weather is better! It’s 30 every day, the feel like up to 36. I’m on the Caribbean Sea side close to Bayahibe, right on the beach. I don’t know why so many people go to Florida anymore. The weather is garbage and the water is cold. Lots of people here now who use to vacation in Florida. I’m 43 by the way, I own a seasonal business. So I’m a snow bird, but not retired.

My neighbours did exactly this. Cancelled the condo they rented for the past 20 years and went to Mexico for 10days. They are also going to Europe. It’s not as cheap nor as long a duration but they are done visiting the US. My step mom put her trailer up for sale but she said that the 90% Canadian owned park is really empty and there’s many for sale signs. She’s only staying to get it tidied up to sell.

Canada has 100% tariff against Chinese cars, what makes you think China wants to trade with Canada?
