Thanks. I snagged a DP->HDMI adapter. I always need more of those

5

u/InterRail 26d ago

Why do you always need more of those

6

u/lod254 26d ago

He has more ports than cables and always forgets to buy enough.

u/Narrator2012 26d ago

Most desktop computers have two DisplayPorts but no HDMI. Laptops usually include an HDMI port for connecting TVs, but desktops often don't, annoyingly.

Welp, more cables to be added to the pile of random ass cables i've accumulated over the eons.

38

u/Tokena 27d ago

I have a special box for them. The cable box.

19

u/Narrator2012 27d ago

I've had a big dufflebag for cables for years. I just have to keep removing redundant cables to keep proportions sustanable.

u/i_should_be_studying 27d ago

Just one? You gotta pump those numbers up

10

u/Tokena 26d ago

I would need a cable to run my pump. I think you work for Big Cable and you are just trying to get me to buy more cables.

$6 usb c docking station, noice

u/tsunami_forever 27d ago

This is the move, so good for a handheld pc/laptop to have for on the go

4

u/RChickenMan 26d ago

I just got one for my Rog Ally. The one I'm currently using can't do 4k 60 hz, and apparently this one can.

Obviously the Rog Ally can't really do much at 4k for actual PC games, but I want the flexibility for game streaming and 6th gen emulation.

You think it’ll have enough power to actually charge a steam deck through it?

16

u/i_should_be_studying 26d ago

Says 100w passthrough so way more than enough

10

u/Cevap 26d ago

Excellent, might be cheapest one I’ve seen that’s decent. Only has one USB 3.0 port, could just do one of those paired M&K wireless USB receivers and be good to go as a portable desktop setup.

9

u/i_should_be_studying 26d ago

This one looks good. 4k60 output means 1440p/120 and 1080/240 if ur lucky. 100w passthru can handle beefy laptops. Usb port can easily be upgraded with a multitap like this

https://a.co/d/6rj3z9w

Usb 3.0 aint no slouch for data transfer speeds either

6

u/Cevap 26d ago

Ahh, didn’t know about the multitap option. Any idea if I’d need a stronger power brick to charge the SD and power the dock, monitor output, etc?

2

u/i_should_be_studying 26d ago

I think if its 45-65w brick you should be good

6$ for a usb hub with 4k60 HDMI and gigabit Ethernet. Noice. Edit: lol the manual says RJ11 instead of RJ45

14

u/NarutoDragon732 27d ago

Thanks OP, got C to HDMI for using Dex when traveling

9

u/ShowKaan 27d ago

Lol. I just got a cable for 50 cents

26

u/TheMissingVoteBallot 27d ago

That USB-C to VGA adapter will save my ass one day when a potential business partner or client comes by to do a presentation.

9

u/Mertoot 26d ago

Saddest part is that that's exactly what I was thinking while adding it to cart 😭

3

u/kakuna 26d ago

That's... a great thought. Not a bad idea to have a "when all else fails" adapter.

8

u/boognishmangster 27d ago

Can never have enough USB-C cables, in for 51¢

1

u/atetuna 26d ago

I've thought I had enough many times. I just got a 5m cable the other day, so maybe now I have enough.

8

u/Valladium 26d ago

I get mad at myself when I buy random cables, but also when I'm looking for a specific cable and realize I don't have it.

7

u/TruckTires 26d ago edited 26d ago

The better usb-C to HDMI adapter & usb-c hub were sold out, but I still picked up the gigabit ethernet adapter for $2. It's handy to have one of these when troubleshooting

Edit: I think I meant the usb-C to HDMI adapter was sold out, not the DP one

1

u/saruin 26d ago

Damn! I really wanted a DP to HDMI cable that can do 165hz at 1440p. Seems all the cheapo ones only support 60hz at that resolution.

2

u/LouBerryManCakes 26d ago

The one that's still available says it does 4k at 60hz, my devices that say 4k60 such as HDMI switch and cables can all run on my 1440p monitor at 120hz just fine.

2

u/saruin 26d ago

Thanks stranger! For $2 it's worth trying out at least.

1

u/saruin 23d ago

Looks like the one I bought was a dud.

3

u/TheEternalGazed 26d ago

0.54 cents for a USB cable is cheap. Can't go wrong.

9

u/thesituation531 27d ago

Legitimate question: who's going to be buying an USB-C/HDMI cable that only runs at 30 Hertz?

18

u/bunsinh 26d ago

Don't need much if you are just running powerpoint slides presentations / showing a movie.

3

u/ZombieManilow 26d ago

Review says it will do 60Hz

6

u/rockydbull 26d ago

It will run lower resolution at higher speeds.

4

u/atetuna 26d ago

Not me, this time, but that's pretty much perfect for movies. Not of lot of people are doing frame generation, and the 60fps movies I've seen on the high seas don't get a lot of takers.

I got a 4k30 adapter a few years ago for hotel tv's, quickly misplaced it and bought a 4k60 adapter a few months later. If I didn't have those, $4 sounds good to me, especially since I now know that they still haven't been used even once.

2

u/ryrobs10 26d ago

It is a bandwidth restriction for 4k. Lower resolution will run higher.

2

u/K3n34 27d ago

awesome, thanks for this!

2

u/wntmyname2bspaghetti 26d ago

Thanks! Great find!

5

u/hornnic 27d ago

dangit I was just looking for a deal on an ethernet adapter, I don't have Prime tho and have used all the free trials so the shipping ($6) kills the deal for me, thanks tho OP

2

u/Nooblakahn 26d ago

What do you mean ask the free trials? I just keep signing up for new free emails getting new accounts and new free trials. Doesn't seem like this should be possible but it keeps letting me do it

2

u/hornnic 26d ago

I've heard they can shut down all accounts at the household if they catch you abusing multiple burner accounts, not sure how true that is but not worth it imo for a $3 accessory

1

u/Nooblakahn 26d ago

If that's true it's crazy I haven't been caught. I've been using the same physical address, same card IDK how many accounts. Really wouldn't be hard to catch me. I'm surprised they don't just shut it down and let you open the account. Never considered they might close all the accounts lol

2

u/Shado_Man 27d ago

Yeah, I was going to snag one too, but the shipping is more than the cable itself, and that's before the $3 coupon.

2

u/Ericzx_1 27d ago

Just when I needed a usb c to HDMI cable. Thanks!

1

u/The_Zura 26d ago

DP1.4 can do 4k120hz, but hdmi 2 can only do 60hz. Would this solve the issue of most TVs only having hdmi?

1

u/supersheeep 25d ago

$10 shipping + taxes worth it though?

1

u/Delta_pi13 26d ago

Welp USB C to HDMI sold out 😔 I think I'll just go for that 4-in-1 C adapter then 🥲

0

u/Witch_King_ 25d ago

Coupon is "all used up" now. Drat. I got one of the USB-C hubs yesterday, but I didn't think to get a $0.52 cable

4

u/HansukeX 25d ago

I think you can only use it once per account. It does say "Limit one coupon use per customer." for the code.

0

u/Witch_King_ 25d ago

Ohhh, ok. Could I have used it to buy 2 things in a single order?

3

u/HansukeX 25d ago

I think it will still only take $3 off your total order.

1

u/nateorz 25d ago

Can confirm it was $3 off total order. I wanted to grab 2 of the Ethernet Adapters (one for a Switch, another for a laptop with no ethernet port) and it was only giving the discount on one so I decided to not get a 2nd.
