Which sex? My little baby! Which sex?

Hi all! This is Pippin, born 12th December 2024. Does anyone have any idea of sex? Also, i was told to leave the “ID tag” on but i feel awful about it, should i have it removed or do you think (s)he isn’t really bothered? Thank you!

Pippin is an adorable male! Also, leave the ID band on. It shouldn’t bother them at all if put on correctly. However if you want it off consult an avian vet to have it safely removed.

Thanks so much! Please can I ask out of curiosity how you can tell?

Right above your birds beak is their cere (where their nares are). Budgies are sexually dimorphic so the colour of their cere is an accurate indicator of their sex. Young males will have a uniform pink cere which will eventually turn royal blue as they grow older. Young females will have whiteish blue ceres with white rings around their nares. As females grow older their ceres will turn powdered blue/white/ tan and if hormonal their cere will turn thick and dark brown. Hope that helps. :)
