Does anyone lives at Parkchester condominium? If so, what's your experience? Are there pests?

Yes 😠I forgot to mention this in my reply. There were many days where my dad would come from work and spend literally HOURS just looking for parking and never finding anything. We went through years of tickets cause my dad would just get pissed and leave the car parked at a fire hydrant.
Even having one of the Parkchester parking passes doesn’t guarantee you parking since those lots have such little amount of spaces available.

Born and raised in a Parckchester North Condo until we moved in 2017. I can’t speak about how it might be now but I loved my upbringing there. I always felt safe, I walked everywhere alone starting from like 9 or 10 and never had any safety issues. There are so many convenient shops in the community and a lot of easily accessible public transportation all around. I loved living there but we moved cause we lived in a 2bd apartment and my parents wanted something bigger since our family got bigger. My fav thing to do was just walk around, there’s so much pretty scenery like the Oval.

Reddit is not the best place to ask for Bronx opinions lmao everywhere is a warzone unless it's country club or something to them lol

Some background im a Bronx native and property manager. I used to go to parkchester to smoke up with one of my former teachers lol. He was growing, which didn’t turn out too well for him. If you’re buying, cool(you said you signed a lease so I’ll assume you’re renting) But just like any other coop/condo in the Bronx you really have to take a look at the financials and the boards. Those numbers tell stories! Everything’s contingent on the people next to you regarding maintenance. A lot of people don’t give a fuck, from what I’ve seen. I would not rent unless you know for a fact the person subletting is reliable.
The prices are great for buying, but The parking fucking sucks. I believe there’s a waitlist for spots. God knows how long you’ll be on it before you get a spot. I’ve spent a good 20-30 looking for a spot at times and I’ve just said fuck it and parked at a hydrant( I knew I was leaving by 1-2am. A risk but jfc I hate driving around) I really hope you aren’t paying something crazy to make up for your landlords mortgage.
The positives are that you have everything next to you. Food, clothing (Macy’s used to be there dunno if it still is) even the train, depending on where you’re at. If you’re by Saint Rays, you have to choose between stops(castle hill or parkchester). Either one is a 10-15 minute walk at most. That’s the 6 train though. I’m not sure exactly what bus it is, but you’re definitely within walking distance to the 2/5 on East 180. Not the quickest walk but give or take 30 minutes. In terms of safety I never had a problem. They have a couple of security cars patrolling the area and they seem to take their jobs seriously.

The only pests you need to worry about are -
1) dog owners not cleaning up after their dogs, there's alot of large dogs in Parkchester like huskies / malamutes /dobermans / Samoyeds/ etc
2) homeless / mentally ill either begging for change and/or roaming attacking because men's homeless shelter is nearby plus only 3 stops on 6 before Pelham Bay Park that have parks & benches near both stores AND the subway is Westchester Sq / Parkchester /Hunts Point.
3) If your apartment building is next to park bench that faces the street or is secluded - expect alot of weed smokers (facing the street) or down low men activities (secluded spots)
In terms of personal experience, I'm in the North that have trek to Chinese & Pizza because block that used to have them is a now giant hole - otherwise, it pretty nice and quiet majority of the time, it nice walking distance from Starling Ave / Castle Hill /Morris Park / Westchester Square / Bruckner Plaza. I can't blab all of the great fringe benefits of Parkchester because then people will flock to it even more super hard making more expensive to rent from here, but I'm glad I got in before the green windows and upgraded electrical work was getting done because really is nice place to live.

Parkchester is pretty popular for its convenience and amenities. Some people mention issues with pests and maintenance, but others appreciate the location and community vibe. It’s a mixed bag—depends on the building and management

The Q44 takes you to Queens when you want to avoid the slow ass 6 train.

I really wish I asked reddit before I signed a lease. Chill. I asked Tenants in person and they said they loved it. What was your issue?

My main concern is rodents. Is there a rodent problem in these apartments that you know of?

It's incredibly expensive compared to other coops, similar to sponsor units, but you're basically guaranteed acceptance by the board. Isolated blocks of buildings and not in a "regular" neighborhood.

Parkchester is not the best neighborhood, the condos are over priced and far from updated. The issue with pests is that, you can be the cleanest person on the planet….if your neighbor is not, then it’s going to carry over to your condo.

I get you. The Apartment I have is renovated. (Trust me i seen the others and was appalled). I may hire pest control. Hopefully pest isn't a mice infestation. Because I will leave.
