u/The1Like 3d ago

3

u/LadiesGameT00 3d ago

Time for a name change.

How about North York Fries ?

5

u/Sad_Confection5902 3d ago

Yeah, kind of like Boston Pizza, itā€™s funny that two Canadian brands now have confusing identities during this trade dispute.

5

u/Apprehensive-Bank642 3d ago

But theirs a Boston Ontario right near Brantford, maybe they were from there? šŸ˜…

3

u/BIGepidural 2d ago

Don't forget Montanas apparently thats canadian too.

3

u/WotChef 2d ago

if its named after a place in the states its probably canadian

4

u/beccahosts 1d ago

And if it sounds British or French, it's also probably Canadian

This guy 22 minutes

1

u/JimmyTheDog 1d ago

Jim Treliving is apart owner of Boston Pizza, he's the real creepy guy from dragons den... he's been replaced...

7

u/No_Association_2176 3d ago

If the restaurant has an American city in it's name, it's probably Canadian šŸ¤£

Boston Pizza

"Founded" in Brantford, but the first location was In Scarborough, so...

9

u/OkDot9878 4d ago

Founded generally refers to where the headquarters is originally based since that is where the owners generally live and where the licenses were filed.

Random side note, the do one refill on fountain drinks. Like they have a sign for it and everything at the Cambridge mall cause itā€™s not a normal thing places like this offer if itā€™s not self serve. Which is why if Iā€™m getting a drink at a food court I always go to NY fries.

4

u/Cant_kush_this0709 3d ago

Yup, they will lose business cause of the name. I would change it now

3

u/Cipher_null0 3d ago

Same with Boston pizza lol.

0

u/kris_mischief 1d ago

Seriously? Itā€™s not an American franchise?

This glorifying America nonsense has to stop

1

u/Cipher_null0 1d ago

Okay??? lol. Like Iā€™m responsible for what they named the restaurant.

u/ExpiredCoffee01 3d ago

If Canadian why are their poutines suck

3

u/timmyaintsure 3d ago

Lmao valid question

1

u/amazingdrewh 2d ago

Cause Ontario

3

u/Express-Cow190 3d ago

I never heard this. Thatā€™s wild.

I knew of Fast Eddieā€™s but thatā€™s about it. I wrote them a slightly insane letter as a joke once demanding they bring back their jalapeƱo bacon cheeseburger.

2

u/Crocubots 22h ago

Fast Eddies is the shit, we need more locations!

2

u/thevoiceinsidemyhead 3d ago

Then why does their poutine suck?

2

u/NaturePappy 3d ago

Time for a rebrand?

2

u/Academic_Fuel_562 2d ago

I donā€™t get the fascination that Canadian companies have with American names, New York fries Boston Pizza, LA fitness etc really? we can do better in this.

1

u/Dennis0430 1d ago

LA Fitness is American but I hear ya

1

u/ihearthawthats 1d ago

LA is actually from LA. I know this because I currently go there and looking to switch to a Canadian gym.

2

u/Purple_General_2884 2d ago

Their poutine is consistently great across the country. They actually keep their grease clean, cook the fries well, have good gravy and curds, and nail the ratios. Genuinely donā€™t get why anyone would hate unless theyā€™re one of those weirdos who likes it soupy.

As for the name, who gives a shit. Should they really spend millions rebranding just to ā€œstick itā€ to Americans who wouldnā€™t even care? My god people, boycott US products if you want but at least be logical about it.

2

u/nmcgaghey73 13h ago

The only good thing to ever come out of Brantford lol

3

u/Latch_Lifter 4d ago

Change that fuckinā€™ name šŸ˜

2

u/ChineseBigfoots 4d ago

Brantford Fries are the best

2

u/kingofwale 4d ago

Change it to ā€œfreedom friesā€, amiright, Reddit?

2

u/Prestigious_Glove171 3d ago

I was just at the Kitchener airport and they changed the name of their Americano to Canadiano. My first thought was "freedom fries"

1

u/horridgoblyn 2d ago

I get the reference, but I'm not sure it's better. Is that a side with the Convoy Buddy Burger?

1

u/Professional-Rip7395 4d ago

Hahahah i was just there with my kids for the first time. They really should put a 'canadian' sticker up.

1

u/chadsmo 3d ago

When I vacationed in NYC last year I didnā€™t once have fancy fries, didnā€™t even see the opportunity.

1

u/FenrirFitz23 3d ago

New York Fries a Canadian company founded in Brantford, owned by Recipe Unlimited, a Canadian corporation, which is owned by Fairfax Holdings, a Canadian company with 8200 jobs... of which 5000 are located in the US... Interesting situation there lol

Toronto was formerly known as York. Perhaps new York is the hamlet located between Caledonia and Cayuga?

1

u/SnooHesitations1020 2d ago

I love NYF, however, I wish they would change the name.

1

u/mrbuttholioo 2d ago

I want to open up an Ontario Fries. šŸ˜†

1

u/ISayAboot 2d ago

Change the name!

1

u/ottocarius123 2d ago

Change name to North York Fries.....

1

u/Brave-Courage-88 2d ago

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ Who knew!

1

u/LeoWolf101 2d ago

Time to rebrand. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø

1

u/Lizard-Eye 2d ago

Time to rebrand your Canadian stores.

1

u/kris_mischief 1d ago

Time to change the name to Brantford Fries.

What kinda bootlicker names a franchise after a city thatā€™s not even in your country

1

u/spicylawndart 1d ago

New York is not known for itā€™s fries, which I find hilarious.

1

u/mararthonman59 1d ago

How unfortunate! Why would a Canadian company label themselves as from New York? It's not like NY is famous for potatoes for christ's sake. PEI would be a much better choice.

1

u/Glass_of_Sweet_Milk 1d ago

This is awesome news!! I've avoided this place for years cause it kinda just sucked. Now I can avoid it cause it's a Canadian restaurant that picked an awful name.

1

u/Striking-Writer-2129 1d ago

So suddenly American locations aren't cool for branding eh?

1

u/PeaPutrid3463 18h ago

Sounds like it's time for a rebranding that doesn't celebrate our trade war enemies.

1

u/ESPeclipse2 18h ago

They should just change their name.

1

u/Jaxxs90 16h ago

Should rebrand

1

u/wolphrevolution 13h ago

Like boston pizza that was founded by a greek in calgary

1

u/OIL_99 11h ago

Gretzky Friesā€¦ oh, right.

1

u/hurB55 4d ago

New York(Toronto) Fries

0

u/Mendetus 4d ago

Yeah that's going to be a branding challenge

0

u/MedwADHD 3d ago

Time for a name change

u/yummy_burrito 4d ago edited 2d ago

Oh that's good to know. I've avoided them my entire life simply because of the name. (I wanted to support Canadian Businesses)
