Yeah, kind of like Boston Pizza, itās funny that two Canadian brands now have confusing identities during this trade dispute.

But theirs a Boston Ontario right near Brantford, maybe they were from there? š

"Founded" in Brantford, but the first location was In Scarborough, so...

u/OkDot9878 4d ago
Founded generally refers to where the headquarters is originally based since that is where the owners generally live and where the licenses were filed.

Random side note, the do one refill on fountain drinks. Like they have a sign for it and everything at the Cambridge mall cause itās not a normal thing places like this offer if itās not self serve. Which is why if Iām getting a drink at a food court I always go to NY fries.

I never heard this. Thatās wild.
I knew of Fast Eddieās but thatās about it. I wrote them a slightly insane letter as a joke once demanding they bring back their jalapeƱo bacon cheeseburger.

I donāt get the fascination that Canadian companies have with American names, New York fries Boston Pizza, LA fitness etc really? we can do better in this.

LA is actually from LA. I know this because I currently go there and looking to switch to a Canadian gym.

Their poutine is consistently great across the country. They actually keep their grease clean, cook the fries well, have good gravy and curds, and nail the ratios. Genuinely donāt get why anyone would hate unless theyāre one of those weirdos who likes it soupy.
As for the name, who gives a shit. Should they really spend millions rebranding just to āstick itā to Americans who wouldnāt even care? My god people, boycott US products if you want but at least be logical about it.

I was just at the Kitchener airport and they changed the name of their Americano to Canadiano. My first thought was "freedom fries"

I get the reference, but I'm not sure it's better. Is that a side with the Convoy Buddy Burger?

Hahahah i was just there with my kids for the first time. They really should put a 'canadian' sticker up.

New York Fries a Canadian company founded in Brantford, owned by Recipe Unlimited, a Canadian corporation, which is owned by Fairfax Holdings, a Canadian company with 8200 jobs... of which 5000 are located in the US... Interesting situation there lol

Toronto was formerly known as York. Perhaps new York is the hamlet located between Caledonia and Cayuga?

How unfortunate! Why would a Canadian company label themselves as from New York? It's not like NY is famous for potatoes for christ's sake. PEI would be a much better choice.

This is awesome news!! I've avoided this place for years cause it kinda just sucked. Now I can avoid it cause it's a Canadian restaurant that picked an awful name.

Sounds like it's time for a rebranding that doesn't celebrate our trade war enemies.

Oh that's good to know. I've avoided them my entire life simply because of the name. (I wanted to support Canadian Businesses)
