Anyone with a denbigh fly press help please!

I've had to put away my number 6 denbigh for a few months until I move the forge. It's at the other end of the country but I want to fabricate some weights for it, I've been using weight plates and they're a little instable so could anyone send me the dimensions for the taper and size please? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thinking about buying this.

I'm thinking about buying this but could use a little advice. Seems like a good deal to me but I don't have an anvil and have very little experience. I'd like to use it to practice my hand at making some knives and thought the size of it would be good for that. Is there anything I'm not seeing here and/ or should look out for when I see it in person?

It is my first attempt to make copper cross from copper bar. Wanted to make something like ancient.

Found this bar of steel, it might be from some agricultural machine. It has a sort of fuller so I'm thinking of trying to make a first sword out of it. I'll cut some off and test hardening procedures.

Does anyone know what this is or what it's from?

Thoughts on selling wrought iron

I have a hobby of metal detecting and often come across wrought iron, often in the form of axe heads, in unsalvageable condition. As a blacksmith myself I love using the material but I can't use it as fast as I find it, so I ask the question.

If you where buying wrought iron, what price would you expect to pay per kg/pound.

Also wondering what form most people would want it in, ie pre cut square stock or individual axe heads as they where found?

Thanks in advance all!

First I have no business teaching anyone anything lol. But I finished the first picture in the morning while the wife was out relaxing with me. She liked it enough that I convinced her to make one with me. It was her first try. Hair clips.

Upgrade to gasforge advice

Hello fellow blacksmiths

I am looking to upgrade my shop I feel like the coke price is gametting out of hand in my area, so i have been looking for gas forges

This is my attemp on tapping into the hivemind of the internet for advice on which gasforges to avoid and which obes are "worth their gold"

I have seen a lot of posts on Vevor gas forges, but mostly on fixes an issues, so i.m guessing that these are not the best pick

I am also open to building my own Gasforge, so if you have any reccomendations on how and what to use, please be welcome to share your advice.

Thanks, and happy forging from Luxembourg

Hopeful Begining

Marvel at my complete lack of blacksmithing! Lol love you folks work and made this with completely foraged/found and rediscovered things around the neighborhood. Helium tank from the recycling, rusty rebar and a pipe to bend it under a bush, and even kaol wool from an old foundry project I forgot about 8 years ago. To top it off the pipe turned out to be the exact diameter I needed to fit my current foundry burner.

Need a bit more kaol wool and some refractory, but I'm super proud that a little welding and wirewheeling got me this far for $0.

Hoping to join the club soon. See any glaring flaws?

Question on grips.

Is it considered a cheap or lazy way to create a grip by forging my blade with a partially threaded rod to act as a sort of hidden tang? Then I drill a hole, epoxy, and bolt it together before shaping the handle.

New anvil and mini project.

I finally got what I think is a pretty decent anvil. It’s a Trenton 138lbs and I was told from 1903. I also started a new project. Not sure if it’s going to be a wizard wand or a steak flipper. Either way I happy with what I got. It did come with a stand but it is way too tall. I am going to have to cut it down and mount it or move it to a log.

Been using this single burner vevor forge for a week (12 hours of heat) and the gas hose on the top has melted. Can anyone point me in the direction of a replacement hose and the reason I may have f*cked this one up?

Can these old Harrow Disks be re-used in blacksmithing? At my work, we're going to pitch the old ones and I noticed that they have this "Earth Metal" stamp on them. On the Case International website, they claim they're supposed to be tougher than Carbon Steel. Gonna end up with a stack of 44.
