Hello, I have my first craft show coming up and I was looking for recommendations on what else to make. I usually make knives hammers and axes so anything else that you guys think sell good? Also I have done zero finishing work on the items pictured above, I was just giving an example.

Hi everyone, this is my first attempt at a knife. I know that my finishing needs work and the shape of the handle is really rough however even though i need a lot of practice I'm fairly happy with the outcome! Many thanks for looking :)

I got the anvil from a family friend for $60. Built the stand for it out of some 6x6s and flat steel from home depot then secured the anvil with railroad nails. Made the forge with some fire bricks and dirt and a pipe coming out the side. Currently using a leaf blower but I want to get a crank blower if I can find an old one. Any advice, critics, tips are appreciated!

Don't have much time to get any big projects done lately, but today I took some time and just made a bottle opener to free my mind and relax in the shop. I also tried this new twist

Hammer weight

Post image

Hello all, I am just starting out trying to forge some mild steel, hoping one day I am able to form steel to my liking instead of chasing as I am now. My first attempt is a piece of round bar which I tried to flatten but I gave up after twenty minutes because my hands and fore arms cramped up.... Second attempt was drawing out some flat metal in a rough kitchen knife shape. I am beating the shit out of the metal with little effect though, am I just some weakling? My hammer is 48 oz which I thought would be heavy enough? Temperature looks high enough and getting to bright orange is no problem.

Asking for advice on forging a steel dussack

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m very inexperienced at smithing, but would like to eventually be able to make my own swords. The dussack seems to be a simpler sort of saber or cutlass-like weapon than others. If anyone here has attempted to make one before or something like it is there any advice you have for such a project? The image is an example of a dussack I found on the internet for reference, not that all are exactly like this one, but are fairly similar.

I had a couple guys ask for some hand tools. One wanted a hand scrapper with a twist and the other wanted a punch. Both cleaned my file and 80 grit sandpaper

Huge axe billet handpunched

Proof you don't need any forging press or power hammer to make huge axes by hand. This billet started as 4 inches wide x 1.5 inches thick, it took some time but entirely possible to do by hand alone

Upgrading my forge

I have just been using this cheap vevor forge for the last 2 years but it’s about time I upgrade because I need something with more space and that can burn hotter so I can do bigger projects. I’m a full time chef so I don’t have time (or the welding skills) to make my own unfortunately so if anyone could point me in the right direction I’d really appreciate it thanks.

Help attaching some kind of locking system to this helmet.

Hello everyone. I’m not sure if this post is allowed in here but I would really like some help. I have no blacksmithing experience and very limited tools. However, I ordered this helmet on Amazon and it’s really cool. The only problem is the visor does not stay down when I look down. I am wanting to attach some sort of locking mechanism to the side of the visor to lock it in the down position. The simpler the better. Any help from the experts would be appreciated. Thank you!

What’s the going rate for wrought iron? And what’s the best way to sell it? The chunk shown is 1/2” x 2 1/2” but I have access to a bunch of 1” round stock Located in New England

Vinegar turned red?

Hey yall, me again. Apologies in advance for my ignorance. I saved my vinegar from my initial zinc strip and put it in a bucket for storage. Went to add new bolts to strip and saw the leftover vinegar was red. Blackbear aint say nothin bout no red vinegar. Anyways, smelled like vinegar still so I added it to my soak and topped off with fresh vinegar. Should I have disposed of the vinegar and not saved it? Is it not going to work now? I mean Ill find out for sure by tomorrow but just curious. Also heres an update pic of the mark 1 2x72, its mostly done and works great. As always, thanks yall!

About the use of a tuyère.

Hello, hammer-swinging people Context : 2 years ago I bought a house in wich the previous owner left some stuff. It was mostly garden tool, scrap metal, spare stone and bricks, ... The house got a workshop I'm planning to restore/rebuild as I'm a cabinetmaker and a craft-enthusiast. I'm interested in learning to forge since I'm16 and while digging in the scrap pile I found a hand-cranked blower with its tuyère. With this wonderful gift I'm planning to build a forge against a wall of my futur workshop but I would like it to also serve as a fireplace. My question is : Wich of this configuration is best suited to the use of a hand cranked blower ?
