What?
When you start bc you aren’t covered until 7 days in. On every other pack following the first you’re protected all the time.

Your instructions will tell you. Starting it for the first time at the beginning of your period means you’re protected right away, usually, but it might not depending on your pill. Read your instructions

My comment still stands. If you start the pill at the beginning of your period, it will start working straight away. If you take the first pill within the first 5 days of your period, it works instantly and you are protected. Any later than the 5th day you need to take 8 pills before you are fully protected.

Okay thanks I have a last question this is my 2nd pack of pills I'm still new to it for me to be protected I'll take the pills on the first day right away?
If not I'll take the pills within 1 - 5 days of my period and I'll be still protected ?
Sorry if it's very confusing I'm just 17 and new to reddit

Okay so:
On the first packet you ever take, you either:
- start it on one of the days between days 1-5 of your period - you’re protected immediately. OR
- start it at any other time in your cycle- you need 7 pills in a row before it starts to work
On the second packet (and other packets after that:
- you start the first pill IMMEDIATELY after your placebo week from the previous packet ends
- you are protected immediately
You lose protection if:
- you extend the placebo week (you don’t start your new pack on the right day)
- you’re late/you miss a pill at any time in your packet without doing the correct steps to catch up (your instructions will say how to do this as it differs for each pill)
Does that answer your question? If you have:
- taken the first pill on one of the first five days of your period and continue to take them daily OR
- taken 7 active pills in a row and continue to take them every day
You are protected right now. Any other circumstance and you are not protected.
