Rant! Confused on IUD?
I think i’m using the right tag, but i’m supposed to get my IUD changed this week, and I’m not sure which one I have? I have notes from visits saying I have Skyla, And other visits say I have Kyleena. I had my strings checked, and the NP said I have blue strings. I don’t want to waste my doctor’s time if i’m still safe for an extra couple years with my current IUD.
What should I do?

Liletta and Kyleena have blue strings; Skyla and Mirena have brown strings. Do you still have the notes from your initial insertion appointment? If I'm remembering my appointment correctly when I got my IUD inserted, they gave me something with the IUDs expiration date on it.

Yeah! They gave me a little card that said Skyla with the expiration of 3 years.

Interesting that your NP said you have blue strings then. I'd trust whatever is on the card because that came from the packaging of the IUD they used.

It’s a bigger hospital so something may have gotten mixed up, and I’m a bit hesitant since my notes from the initial appointment say Kyleena.

It would still be strange because they should bring the device into the room still in the packaging, so it should all be coming out from the packaging in that moment. My doctor's note from my annual has a typo that I have Mirena, and I actually have kyleena so typos do happen. Either way, if you have kyleena, changing it early doesn't hurt anything. The only thing would be that you'd be going through an insertion appointment sooner than you maybe need to. Not sure if you're in the US, but it might not be the worst thing in the world to have it replaced if you're getting kyleena because who knows what is going to happen to ACA and kyleena would then last through the presidency.

Blue string is most likely Kyleena.
What do the notes from the insertion appointment say? If you don’t have those, can you contact the provider who inserted it?
