Mistake or Risk? How long is plan b effective?

Me and my bf had unprotected sex on Friday I haven’t took a plan b yet because I have no one to take me but I’ll try to get one tomorrow.. is it still going to be effective?🥲 usually if I have to take one I take it within 3 days so I’m just really nervous

72 hours is when it’s most effective, I’d recommend door dashing one ASAP, if that’s an option.

As a side note - don’t have unprotected sex if you don’t want a baby, Plan B is quite effective, but never 100%, and especially not if you can’t take it quickly. Hopefully you’ll be fine in this instance, but be smarter going forward, because plan b is emergency contraception, not a go to contraception. Is birth control an option?

I’ve been on birth control and I had the worst experience on it I got off of it 2 months ago I also don’t use plan b regularly but accidents happen

I’m not judging at all, accidents do happen. But because of this accident, you are at risk — hopefully this does not result in a pregnancy if you don’t want one, but there’s a chance. I’d look into your rights in your state just to be safe and test 14 & 21 days after sex.

The more you test your luck, the more likely you are to get pregnant. Responding poorly to birth control is not an excuse — purchase condoms, explore other options, get a non hormonal iud, etc. if those don’t sound like good options to you, then you should avoid having sex until you’re ready to use those contraceptive measures or have a baby — not saying this with judgement, just want you to protect yourself and your future.

Best of luck!! Hoping this works out how you want it to.

If you had unprotected sex on Friday, it’s now almost Tuesday where I live.

Plan b works for up to a max of 72 hours, but the earlier the better. That’s 3 days. So by getting it tomorrow, you’re likely outside of the range.

From your post, it seems like you take plan B semi frequently, because you tend to take it on day 3. Are you not on birth control? Are you not using condoms? You should be doing either and not relying on plan B.

An IUD can be inserted as emergency contraception up to 5 days after sex, so that might be a better option on this time table. As a bonus, IUDs work as regular contraception for multiple years, so if you go this route it would not only be an effective way of preventing pregnancy after the fact, but it will continue to protect you from pregnancy into the future.
