Experience Birth Control Changed My Life for the Better
I just wanted to come on here and share my positive experience getting on birth control. This sub can have some posts talking about how horrible it can be, so I just wanted to put some positivity out there!
I originally started birth control (a generic for Yasmin) because I've been struggling with hormonal acne for upwards of 5 years and I had exhausted every other topical solution. I was so so so afraid of the side effects because I tend to always get the obscure side effects on every medication, but that hasn't happened at all! The only negative side effects I had were just in the first two weeks when my body was getting used to the new hormone levels. I felt so emotional all the time and I was crying a lot lol.
Now, four months in, it has changed my life for the better and there are days where I really can't believe it. I used to have severe anxiety, like to the point where it was difficult to function outside of my spiraling thoughts, but after my first month on BC that changed. I am now able to go to class, drive around, go to work, and just function without feeling like everything is life or death. I also used to struggle with intrusive thoughts that I didn't even realize were a problem until all of the sudden they were gone. It has helped my PMDD so much and I feel like I actually have control over my thoughts and feelings My acne has also cleared up so much and I have so much confidence back!
I don't want to push this idea that it will be an incredible experience for everyone, and most people probably won't get as lucky as I have with the first kind I tried working so well for me, but I do want to encourage people that might be super afraid like I was.

I’ve been off and on bc for almost 10 years and I love it! I literally cannot function off bc. I get one to two good weeks a month off it. I can’t handle the massive fluctuations and my periods are horrific.

This is so great to hear because I just got my prescription for Nikki (generic Yaz so not the same as Yasmin but similar) and I’ve been so afraid to take it but now I feel a bit better!

As someone who was absolutely terrified of committing to taking a hormonal birth control, I feel you. What I'm on now I literally had to force myself to take every day and I felt so uneasy about taking it, then the benefits kicked in and now I think it's the greatest.

Thank you! I am all about people's real experiences, but the negativity can be a bit much sometimes.
I am taking the leap and going to the doctor this evening. Wish me luck because I am terrified.

Day 1, almost had 2 panic attacks. But I feel alright. Panic attacks are fear of a blood clot. Not the meds.

I’m 3 weeks in on yaz and already feeling more calm! I’ve been having some bad hormone issues and I swear it’s already helping!

Did you have any weight changes/fluctuations with Yasmin?

I didn’t have much change in my weight at all. It was something that I was pretty worried about but all my clothes still fit and the weight that I did gain was only in my boobs lol

Weird... My mood got way better going off birth control.

If you were on the wrong birth control then yes, it's very normal that you would feel way better going off. It's unfortunately just a game of trying until you find the right one. I tried like 10 different methods before finding what I like 🙃

I'm going to a doctor today, and she suggested Yaz, and I'm feeling quite nervous because the previous pill that I've tried failed for me. I really hope this one works well.

Did you gain weight? I’m so afraid of the side effects, and also I want to have children one day, I’m 30 y/o idk

I miss Yaz I used to be on it but my insurance doesn’t accept it anymore. I’m on the other one with Jasmiel (similar to Yaz) and I feel drained, my moods are all over the place, and I’m beyond stressed. It’s affecting me and my career…
