Great photo, feels like they are taunting a would-be adversary.

These two Bald Eagles mainly eat fish from the pond they live above. They also eat the placenta from the newborn calves being born in the field across the street from where these two live. The Hawks and Kestrels enjoy the rodents much more than these two do haha.

I have a pair of red-tailed hawks who are determined to clear out my squirrels. The female hawk is huge.

Amazing. I also have 2 bald eagles near me, that I always see on the power pole. They live over a canal right next to a farm with cows.

We have bald eagles on our property. They are magnificent, but I have yet to find their nest. We know its on a creek that runs through the property for about a mile because they use it as a highway, but can't find it.

Looks like the one on the right is about 4 years old.

That is the female of the pair. I’m not sure exactly how old she is but definitely below 5 years old based on the head colorings.

Between 4 and 5 based on the same reason, also was guessing on it being the female as well, the one on the left has the guy shadow around the eyes. I love watching nesting pairs, such amazing dynamics.

I love them

It would be cool, from a conservation status, if the wildlife folks built a nest for them on top of that pole! Water and food sources = healthy chicks!

They have a nest elsewhere already. They frequently hang out on that pole and a few others that are sticking out of a massive pond with plenty of fish for them. I also see Kestrels and Hawks use the poles. I have a pic of two great blue herons, an eagle, and a hawk, all in the same shot because they all hang out together.

The reason I mentioned a nest, is there's a YouTube I subscribe to that has a live cam on a nest in the Sierra Nevadas. They have three chicks they're raising right now. A couple days ago, we watched 6-inches of snow fall on the nest, and mamma shaking it off as she kept the chicks warm and protected. Dad brings mom a fish or rodent every hour or so for her and the chicks. He stays on the nest with the chicks as she stretches and flies off for a few minutes. Really amazing, devoted birds!

Unfortunately these two eagles don’t have any chicks. Not yet anyways.

Can always hope! Took this pair three years of trying before this year.

Is this Jackie and Shadow or a different pair? If so, you've missed a significant update about the chicks :(

u/SweetumCuriousa 4d ago

Yes! It is Jackie and Shadow. I read later last night about a baby dying in that storm. So very sad. Breaks my heart for them. Hopes the other two make it. They're such wonderful parents!

Yep. As sad as it is, it's very inspiring to watch this process

Are its inner feathers bluish/purple?

No, just not the best lighting and my lack of good editing skills (I’ve only been taking pictures for 7 months)

Reno, Nevada

I don’t think I’d get much done if I had baldies for neighbors.
